Pafce Four SKYSCRAPER Fencers Win 6 of 13 Bouts at First Competitive Meet The college fencers won 6 out of 13 bouts in their first competitive tourna ment, held here on Jan. 8 and won by the Edgewater Fencing team with a score of 7-6. Coached by Lee Mitchell, who directed ihe bout, the Mundelein team, including Conslance Zarembski, Marjorie Thomas. Dorothy Koziel, Rita Kloss. and Isabel Molloy, chalked up a score of 43 points against Edgewater's 51. The Edgewater team, coached by Eu gene Williams, includes two star fencers, Carol King, who placed in the tryouts for the Olympic games last year, and Ann Delegard, who won third place in the Mid-West Fencing tournament last year. Constance Zarembski was high scorer for the home team, totaling 12 points in three bouts. Student officials at ihe nice', included Mary Lou Bell, Beatrice Pan- sini. Freshman Debaters Enter Semi-Finals Four freshman teams will enter the semi-finals of the annual Freshman Debate contest, which will l gt;e held next week. Lavinia Cole and Anne Marie O'- Rourke. only affirmative team to have survived the first and second rounds of the contest, will debate Mary Louise Shannon and Jane Brown. Mary lane Sheridan and Barbara Ohab, affirmative, will debate Doris Ruddy and Helen Cashion, negative, next week. Examines Coin Collection Economics Major Studies Old Coins Left The envy of the money and bank ing class is Margaret O'Brien's coin col lection, representing practically every country and every period in history. American, Spanish, English, Swedish. Swiss, Russian, Chinese, and Guatemalan coins are included in the collection, spe cific items of which are a United States penny dated 1796, a five-cent paper piece, state money dating from the Civil War, Columbian silver dollars, and even Mor mon money. Miss O'Brien, however, admits that the piece which is her special pride is a two-dollar bill, the last two dollars of a million belonging to John L. Sullivan of pugilistic fame. Sullivan himself gave it to her uncle, autographing it the last two dollars of my million. Badminton Enthusiasts Frequent Hobby Hour Teachers College Wins Swim Meet With 34-22 Score Below Elizabeth Dimmick, Kather ine Dealy, Dorothy Dember, and Ber nice Joerger are among the dozens of students who visit the gymnasium for Hobby Hour every day at noon. Exhibited in the eighth-floor galleries are selections of illustration, design, charcoal, and conte crayon drawings executed during the first semester by students in the art department here. Magazine illustrations of popular themes for children are the work of Irene Waldron. Virginia Gaertner, and Marie Nack. Betty Kreuzer. Sally Davis, and Georgene McGowan are junior con tributors to the fantasies of line and color section in the design group. Figure-heads and still-life exhibits done in conte crayons are largely soph omore and freshman work. Margaret Mary Kreusch, Dorothy O'Neil, May Farmer, Ruth YanHuele, and Rita Valenzano have some of this type of work exhibited. Representative work of Sanfer Cies lak, Marion Pritchard, Marion Dyer, Sylvia Gross, Catherine Rheiner, Helen Delaney, and Frances Kane comprise the black-and-white drawings of the charcoal group.
