Pa e Four SKYSCRAPER Juniors Retain Swimming Title In Class Meet Pile Up 60-Point Score; Freshmen Follow With 30 The juniors successfully defended the championship, splashing to an over whelming victory in the Inter-Class Swimming meet, Feb. 26. Table of points is as follows: juniors, 60; fresh men. 30; sophomores. 4: seniors, 2. Virginia Walsh, junior free-styler. won the 40-yard front crawl and also gave the winners an early lead in the 80-yard free-style relay. Mary Harrington touched out her team-mate, Frances Smith, in the 40- yard backstroke to win by four-tenths of a second. Swimming backstroke, Miss Harrington gave an early lead to the medley relay team. Are Junior Leads Mainstays of the junior team were captain Marie Cassettari, Gertrude Quinlan, and Joan Leach, who showed unusual versatility as performers. Miss Cassettari won the 100-yard backstroke: anchored the winning med ley relay and the 80-yard freestyle re lay teams. In the 40-yard breaststroke, Miss Quintan tied for first place: took sec ond in the 40-yard free-style and 40- yard breaststroke: and acted as sec ond-man in the 80-yard relay. Joan Leach, star newcomer of the junior team, tied for first place in the 40-yard breaststroke: swam breast- stroke in the medley relay, won the 60-yard individual medley relay, and acted as third-man in the 80-yard free-style relay. Freshmen Win Twice The freshmen won two events the 100-yard front crawl and the 100-yard breaststroke with Captain Mary Jane Kent, star swimmer and diver, victor ious. Junior medley-relay swimmers skimmed through the water for a 43.3 mark. Freshmen Marian Anthoulis. Mary Jane Kent, and Margaret Kane placed second in this event. Marie Cassettari won a close diving contest from Mary Jane Kent. Marian Anthoulis placed third; Alyce Pankau. senior, fourth. Freshman Swims At Yale Carnival Demonstrates Synchronized Swimming Synchronized swimming is here to stay, decided Bob Kiphuth, Yale swim ming coach, so he wanted to have a demonstration of it at Yale's annual Water Carnival last week-end. Mary Jane Kent, who holds the Chi- cago Times Senior diving champion ship and is co-bolder of the second- place trophy in the Central A.A.U. duet ballet contest, was chosen by D. C. Leach, Chairman of National Syn chronized Swimming of A.A.U.. to be one of two swimmers to give the dem onstration. Accompanied by her partner. Dorothy Dodson, Miss Kent did her part toward promoting synchronized swim ming among the Sons of Eli. Freshmen Take Two Games in Class Tourney Defeat Seniors and Juniors In First Basketball Games Loyola Wants Two Carnival Queens Urges Contestants to Submit Pictures Win Fencing Meet At Northwestern U. Mundelein fencers won a dual fencing meet from Northwestern university, 14- 11, on the Evanston campus, Feb. 28. Catherine Bettenbender had a perfect day, winning five matches and losing none. Irene Foster won four, and lost one. Doris Knockaert fenced two matches, win ning both. Also isirticipating in the meet were Geneva Freeman, Barbara Lavin, and I.eocadia Meloy. In the opening game of the Inter-Class Basketball tournament, Feb. 23, the fresh men won a 22-16 victory from the juniors. Slender, blond Lenore Brockhaus starred for the winners, tallying 14 of her teams' total points. Carnivals do not always connote queens, but the one Loyola university is holding on March 27. as a climax to the intra mural season, will honor six finalists, chosen from Rosary and Mundelein. The two queens will be chosen from these six girls. Pictures of entrants should be given to Miss Joanne Dimmick, who will give them to the Loyola representative in charge of the contest. Contest entries must be submitted before March 20, open ing date of the preliminary week, during which a select group of judges decide who arc to be the Carnival Queens. Bowlers to Meet De Paul, De Pauw Mundelein bowlers will seek new laur els when they meet De Paul university March 9, at the Congress Bowling alleys. The meet will begin at 4:15 p.m. Bowling for Mundelein will be Cap tain Angela Voller and Jean Patnoe, Elaine Feiereisel, Ruth Feiereisel, Eve lyn Kosar, Marie Cassettari, Dorothy Hein, Betty Troost, and Helen Block.
