The Immaculata Two notable events which t.ook plal at the Immaculata' since the openti of the new year wore the solemn ded cation of the new building, by His I Grace, the Most Reverend George W. J Mundelein, D.D., and the students' | annual retreat. The dedication of the new Im maculata, occured on-Thursday, Jan nary 4. The ceremonies began with the singing of the "Venl, Creator," by the faculty choir. After the blessing of the school by His Grace, a brief program was given in the Auditorium The greeting to the Archbishop, grace fully delivered by Miss Jane Bremnei president of the Senior Class, was fol lowed by the triumphal chorus, "Give I -Ear, O Lord," composed by the Sisters' I of Charity, B.V.M., and sung by the | entire assembly of more than ee hundred students, accompanied by the | 'Immaculata orchestra. The address to the students by the I .Most Reverend Archbishop set the | final seal upon this solemn and ii presslve occasion. In a brief but 1 spiring discourse, he set forth to 1 •hearers the value of education, and the j ideals which should animate educators, | if the things of supreme moment to be conserved, ending with an oquent tribute to the work of the | teaching Sisterhoods. The exercises Olosed with Solemn, Pontifical Benedic- f tion of the Most Blessed Sacrament. 1 The annual retreat for the students I opened on January 30 and closed on the morning of February 2, Rev. Albert R. "Wise, S.J.. retreat master. Strong, appealing, practical, above all profoundly impressive by reason of the i earnestness and intensity of conviction' that marked the speaker's every ut-1 terance,- his words awakened respon-,- sive echoes in the hearts of all, and! the earnest manner in which they per-f; (formed the exercises attested the fulyj | measure of their appreciation. Th*1 ; retreat closed appropriately with the| investing of the students with thej "miraculous me'dal" of the Immaculate! Conception.
