Chemistry majors Paula Danler and Janice Kuban will pursue their M.S. degrees next year. Paula has been offered a teaching assist antship at Kansas State University and Janice has been awarded a pre- doctoral fellowship in pharmaceutical chemistry at the University of Illinois Medical Center. Virginia Finnegan, English ma jor, will study comparative litera ture at the University of Chicago on a Woodrow Wilson Fellowship. Loyola University in Chicago has offered Carol Ann Gendron, also an English major, a teaching as sistantship. Accepts Assistantship Granted assistantships at the Universities of Kansas and Wash ington, English major, Judith Ler ner plans to study at the latter. An honorable mention Woodrow Wilson winner, Betty Muzik, who is in English, has also been offered a research assistantship at UCLA, a teaching fellowship in English at the University of Detroit and a tuition scholarship at the Uni versity of Wisconsin. She will study at the University of Illinois where she has a tuition fellowship. With a house fellowship at the University of Wisconsin, Patricia Porwicz, also in English, will work there on her M.A. English major and journalism minor, Mary Etta Talarico has ac cepted a journalism scholarship at Columbia University. She was also named a Robert R. McCormick scholarship winner to Northwest ern University's Medill School of Journalism. Study Theology Sister Mary Scholastica, S.C.C, English major, and Carolina Mol leda, Spanish major, have been awarded theology scholarships to Marquette University. Home economics majors Lois Kramer, Laura Lewin, Kathy Rey nolds and Carol Zehnle will con tinue study next year. Lois will intern at Hines Hos pital, while Laura will study foods and nutrition at the University of Illinois on a fellowship. Laura was also offered a fellowship to Purdue. The other two home economics majors will study out of state. Kathy Reynolds will intern at Aetna Life Insurance Company, Hartford, Conn. Carol Zehnle has been awarded an internship at Pennsylvania State University for institutional food research. Carol was also offered an internship to St. Mary's Hospital in Rochester. Mary Michael Parent, psycho logy major, will accept a Ph.D. fellowship at Fordham University. She also had offers from the Uni versities of Kansas, Iowa and the Catholic University of America. Receives Trainee Scholarship A trainee scholarship for teach ing the visually handicapped at a center in San Francisco has been awarded to sociology major, Con stance Tracz. Speech major, Donna Adamitis, will accept the Office of Education fellowship to the University of Wisconsin. She was also offered clinical assistantships in speech correction at Northwestern Uni versity and the University of Illi nois. Also at Loyola University will be Mary Becker, history major, who has a teaching assistantship. Woodrow Wilson Fellowship winner, a Fulbright semifinalist and winner of a doctoral fellow ship to the University of Kentucky, history major, June Carter will study French history at the Uni versity of Chicago. Janet Liscarz, history student and winner of a Danforth Fellow ship for advanced study in Ameri can cultural history for a Ph.D., will study at .the University of Pennsylvania. Teaches at Minnesota With a teaching assistantship to the University of Minnesota, Jo anne Gurdak, mathematics major, also had similar awards at the University of Indiana and Purdue University. Madeline Klaves, also in mathe matics, was offered a scholarship for a master of arts in teaching at the University of Chicago and Northwestern University. She will attend Chicago. The only woman in the country to place in the National Putnam Mathematical Competition, Helen Skala, mathematics major, has also won an honorable mention in the National Science Foundation Graduate Fellowship competition. She has been offered a fellowship and teaching assistantship at the University of Michigan, but has accepted the National Science Foundation Traineeship to Illinois Institute of Technology. Biology majors, Milda Juodval- kis and Noreen O'Brien, have been admitted to Presbyterian-St. Luke's Hospital for training in medical technology. Now working at Argonne Na tional Laboratories on a plasma research project, Barbara Tryba, physics major, has a fellowship to Ohio State University and was of fered two other awards. An expected 800-900 students will participate in Mundelein's sum mer school program, June 21-July 30, and the eight-week language pro gram June 21-Aug. 13. The general session includes classes in art, economics, edu cation, English, teaching of German, Greek literature, his tory, mathematics, philosophy, physical education, psychology, sociology, Spanish drama, the ology and developmental read ing. A B.V.M. English teachers work shop for the improvement of the general pattern of, English educa tion, seventh grade through senior year will be offered. Language, literature and composition will be emphasized. Sister Mary Phillipa, B.V.M., community consultant, and Sister Mary Antonia, B.V.M., chairman of the English department, are organ izing the program. Teachers in the workshop are Miss Catherine Ham, University of Chicago, and Dr. Andrew Schiller, University of Illinois. Mr. Paul O'Dea will also teach. Lay teachers may carry five to seven hours in education by Seniors Receive Degrees June 2; Gen. Reading, lan guage arts, arithmetic and primary curriculum will be studied at Mundelein for three weeks. The remaining time will be spent in a laboratory situation at St. Gertrude's school. A maximum of 20 teachers al ready in inner-city schools will be included in the Urban Education Program. The 20 will be chosen from their letters of application. Once again high school juniors and seniors may earn college credit in the Early Bird Program. This summer these students may study art, Greek, history, mathematics and modern languages. Senior Vir ginia Kelly is the first early bird to be graduated from Mundelein. She has completed her college edu cation in three years. Besides the regular faculty members, there are nine vis- i t i n g instructors conducting classes in the summer pro gram. Theology instructors include: Reverend James O'Connor, S.J., St. Mary's, Kansas City, Canon Law; Sister Mary Celesta, B.V.M., Los Gatos, Cal., and Sister Mary Benedicta, B.V.M., Cai-mel High School, Mundelein, 111. Sister Mary St. Mark, B.V.M., Carmel High School, will teach elementary Spanish. Sister Mary Goretti, B.V.M, The Immaculata, and Sister Mary Charlotte, B.V.M, St. Paul, Minn., will conduct ele mentary and intermediate French classes.
