College Represented At Ceremony Opening New Loyola Institute His Excellency, the Most Reverend Samuel A. Stritch, D.D., archbishop of Chicago, was guest speaker at a lunch eon sponsored by Loyola university, at the Sovereign Hotel, on May 13, to mark the opening of Loyola's newly founded Institute of Inter-American Affairs. Sister Mary Justitia, B.V.M., Presi dent of the College, was a guest of honor and two members of the Fac ulty were on the program of the Inter- American conference, also sponsored by Loyola in connection with the es tablishment of the Institute. Recipients of the Gold Key will be Dolores Rudnik. Summa Cum Laude graduate and an economics major, and the following. Bond Drive Nets Citations, 51,036.65, Three Planes Education Chairman Heads Psychologists Perhaps three former Loyola students will lie chosen to pilot the three train ing planes which, according to the United States Treasury department, will be bought with the funds Munde lein students have invested in War Bonds and Stamps during the past year. In recognition of the sale and pur chase of 51,036.65 worth of Bonds and Stamps, the students were honored on May 25 by Mrs. Leo P. Cummings. Treasury representative, who presented a citation to the College, announced that three 15,000 training planes would bear the College name near their in strument boards, and awarded individ ual citations to eight outstanding Bond salesmen and purchasers. Receiving the individual citations were Leocadia Meloy, chairman dur ing the second semester of the College Bond ami Stamp sales committee, Jean Spatuzza, Francine Lamb, Kathryn Hangsterfer, Jov Gillespie, Dolores Downey, Harriet Mclnerney, and Maralyn Woodworth. Also outstanding for the number of Bonds purchased in their names dur ing the spring Bond Queen contest are Mary Dolores Driscoll, Edith Moscar dini, Marv Mauser, and Jeanne O'Mal ley. Sister Mary Benedict. B.V.M.. chair man of the department of psychology and education, was elected president of the Chicago Society of Catholic Psy chologists on May 20. Since 1941, Sister Mary Benedict has been the Mundelein representative on a North Central Association committee for the study of the preparation of teachers in the liberal arts colleges, and has been coordinator of the Fac ulty committes on eductional studies. Sister Mary Benedict succeeds in office Maria A. Hallinan, well-known Chicago phychologist and educate r. Thomas M. Kennedy is vice-president, and the Reverend Charles I. Doyle, S.J., chairman of the department of psychol ogy at Loyola, is secretary-treasurer. Jesuit Educator Delivers Address At Baccalaureate Seniors, Juniors, Faculty March in Procession Stressing the imperative need for religion in everyday life, the Very Rev erend Thomas S. Bowdern, S.J., presi dent of the Creighton university, coun seled the seniors at Baccalaureate yes- terday to preserve the nionuntum of spiritual activity acquired during their college years. Formerly dean of the university col lege and regent of the school of jour nalism at Creighton, Father Bowdern, a leader in educational circles, holds a doctorate from St. Louis university. While the Orchestra, directed by Jos eph J. Grill, played the Processional by Mendelssohn, the juniors, seniors, and the Faculty marched in procession to the Auditorium. Mrs. A. J. Hendry, Mrs. Gaylord Millikin, and Miss Margot Atkin, of the American Red Cross, who have been associated with the College in the establishment of the Red Cross unit and in the offering of Red Cross courses, marched with the Faculty in the procession at Baccalaureate and will he present also at Commencement. The Glee club, directed by Walter Aschenbrenner. sang two selections, The Lord Is My Shepherd, by Schubert, and Praise Vc the Name of the Lord, by Nikolsky, and the Orchestra played The Angelus. by Hadle-y. After his address. Fathc r Bowdern administered to the seniors the Grad uates' Pledge of Loyalty and Service, and Solemn Benediction of the Most Blessed Sacrament was celebrated. The Reverend William McGee, S.J., of the philosophy department, was celebrant; the Reverend Edward V. Cardinal. C.S.V., of the history depart ment, was deacon, and the Reverend Arthur J. Kelly.
