Universities Ask Faculty To Teach On Summer Staffs Three Faculty members have ac cepted invitations from other insti tutions to serve on their summer instructional staffs; three have sci entific appointments; others will at tend Workshops and conventions between now and fall. Sister Mary Pierre, B.V.M. chairman of the Home Economics department, will spend her eighth summer as visiting lecturer in the St. Louis University Graduate school, and will also serve on the staff of the St. Louis university Home Economics Educational con ference, June 10-15. Sister Mary Irma, of the English department, will teach in the Graduate School Eng lish department of the Cath olic University Midwest sum mer session at Loras college, Dubuque. Sister Mary Adelbert, of the Bi ology department, will conduct a course in the Teaching of Biology, at St. Ambrose college, Davenport. Iowa. Sister Mary Martinette, chair man of the Chemistry department, has accepted an appointment as Re search Associate in Chemistry at the University of Notre Dame for the 1957 summer session. National Science Foundation Authorizes College to Offer Biology Institute for Teachers One of 18 colleges in a nation wide program. Mundelein has been authorized by the National Science Foundation to offer an in-service institute next year for secondary- school teachers of science. Sister Mary Cecilia, B.V.M., chairman of the Science de partment, will attend a con ference in Washington, D.C., May 25, of directors of the in- service institutions with Na tional Science Foundation of ficers. The purpose of the institutes is to improve the competence of the teachers who take part and to as sist them in motivating their stu dents to pursue careers in science. The expenses of the teachers who take part in the program will be paid by the Foundation. Loyola Dean Qives Address At Baccalaureate What it Means to be a Human Person will be the topic of Father Robert C. Hartnett, S.J.. who will give the Baccalaureate Address on Sunday, June 2, at 4 p.m. Dean of the College of Arts and Sciences at Loyola university. Father Hartnett is a former editor of America and of Catholic Mind, and the author of numerous maga zine articles. Following his address Father Hartnett will administer to the Seniors the Graduates' Pledge of Loyalty and Service and will pre side at Benediction of the Most Blessed Sacrament. Parriannie Wilson will play the Processional and Recessional, and George Petterson, of the Drama de partment, will serve as marshall for the academic procession. The course will be part of the program that Mundelein inaugu rated this year when it sponsored a Science Lecture series for teachers in the area. Other colleges in the midwest that have received grants are Carleton in Minnesota, Ball State Teachers in Indiana, and Antioch in Ohio. 119 Days Till School Reopens In exactly 119 days, incom ing Seniors will be puzzling over class schedules at Senior Registration, Monday morn ing, Sept. 9. Juniors will register Tues day morning, Sept. 10; Soph omores, Wednesday morning, Sept. 11; and Freshmen, Thursday morning, Sept. 12, following four days of Fresh man Orientation. Classes will begin on Monday, Sept. 16. Graduate Study Beckons Eight Seniors, Alumnae Six seniors and two alumnae have completed arrangements for grad uate study beginning in the fall. Kathryn Fox '45, a Biology major, has received from the National Sci ence Foundation a pre-doctoral fel lowship for study at the University of Notre Dame. At Tarn O'Shanter Club, May 31 Seniors Are Having A Ball Blend one enchanted evening May 31 with one Prince Charming spellbound by one bewitching prin cess. Multiply by some hundreds and get the Senior Ball. Seniors and their escorts will dine at the Tain O'Shanter Country club at 6:30 that evening, Dorothy Strzechowski, class president, and Patricia Lampe, social chairman and general chairman of the Hall, have announced. For the Pall, the Seniors have req uisitioned the entire club, both floors, and outside patios, for danc ing from 9 to 1. Johnny Palmer and lt; Jrady Johnson and their bands will offer continuous music. Joan Barrett heads the Bid com mittee. Dorothy Haley the Publicity committee, and Shirley Parrelli the Arrangements committee. Several dozen Seniors are assisting the com mittee chairmen and class officers with Hall plans.
