Well may the young artists be proud, for they have realized their ambition greater appreciation of art, worthwhile contribution to school activities, and enthusiasm and enjoyment in the projects of their club. Twelve charter members under the leadership of Sylva Aronian, president; Genevieve Dooner, secretary; and Irene Galvin, treasurer, have been joined during the year by almost double their original number of active pledges. Among the special events of the club was the visit to Mr. Birren's studio, where they were greeted and addressed by that accomplished artist. The water color exhibit of Professor James was also enthusiastically attended by the group. Perhaps the highlight of their social activities was the pledge party in March. For further information concerning the party and the ensuing cartoons, any pledge will be glad to oblige, for, however her club sisters may have laughed, she enjoyed even more than they the required self-cartoons. Sketching parties in Lincoln Park added zest to the season which is usually so devastating to even the most ardent students. But the purpose of the club is not wholly pleasure. The student art work, from the exquisite Madonna frontispiece and dainty section headings of the winter Clepsydra and their delightful successors in the issues which followed to the elaborate division pages of the Tower, have rendered those publications doubly attractive. Early in the year appeared delightful silhouettes on glass in Page 66 SKETCHING IN LINCOLN PARK Left to Right Sylva Aronian, Eunice Portt, Mary Honan, Alice Alexander, Ann Lally, Irene Galvin. THE ART CLUB black or in clear, merry red, richly-tooled leather novelties, and a host of fascinating gifts, a generous display of which made the art booth popular at the Christmas bazaar. In the graphic advertising room are the many attractive posters which have announced important events cf the year the Sophomore Cotillion, Mundelein Mosaics, the style show, the Vocation Week program, Quest, the Senior Ball in fact, every important event of the school year, whether serious or social. Another room boasts lovely jewel-cases, inlaid coffee-tables with their bright mosaics laid in original designs, reed baskets, batik scarfs, and other novelties, while in still another room rest the canvases of our future Afichangelos and Da Vincis. An irresistible as well as helpful piece of equipment is an exhaustive file containing accurately catalogued compositions of every description: decorative design, portraits, landscapes, silhouettes, chubby babies, periodcostumes, solemn- looking Scotties, everything that could stimulate the imagination of the student artist. Well may the members smile a bit complacently as they lay down their brushes for the summer, and look forward to a season whose changing tints of lake and sky will have an added richness and significance for their artist-eyes.
