Jeanne McCarthy, senior chemistry major, has been accepted by the Mar quette University School of Medicine, and will enter in March, 1945, unless a vacancy in the July Class, already filled, occurs. Two Mundelein alumnae have al ready received their M.D.'s, Mary Or- pha Albright '34, and Marie Smith '36. Dr. Albright, who finished at the Loyola Medical school in 1942, took her internship at Milwaukee County hospital, and is now specializing in pediatrics at Children's Memorial hos pital, Chicago. Dr. Smith finished at the Illinois Medical college in Dec, 1943. Two home economics majors have recently received appointments as stu dent dietitians. Christine Gallantc, who finished her college work in February and who is now experimenting in research metab olism at Cook County Hospital, will take her internship at Cook County. Rosemary Gibbons, who has received appointments both to Cook County Hospital and to Miami Valley Hos pital, in Dayton, Ohio, will interne also at Cook County. Bond Queen Contest Receipts 35,619.05 Newspapers always exaggerate? Not the Skyscraper. In the last issue before Easter, the paper predicted that 1000 would come in that day for the Bond Queen contest. Matter of fact, 25,000 came in Total receipts for the contest were 35,019.05 with 14,459 voted for Do lores Downey, the all-college winner. Ranking highest in their classes were Jeanne O'Malley, senior, with 2,515; Jean Spatuzza, junior, with 3,064.80; Edith Moscardini, sophomore, with 358.85, and Joy Gillespie, freshman, with 8,467.35. Leocadia Mcloy. this semester's chair man of the War Bond and Stamp Sales, announces that the contest, the most successful ever sponsored by the Col lege, has boosted this year's total sales to nearly 50,000. Art Association Accords Honor to Faculty Member At the central regional meeting of the Catholic Art Association, held at Alvcrnia high school, on April 10, the chairman of the art department and two senior artists were accorded hon ors. A water color by Sister Mary Janet, B.V.M., who is retiring treasurer of the Association, was selected for the Catholic Art Association Professional Traveling Exhibit, and an advertising layout by Edith Bukowski and a sta tionery design by Ruth Shmigelsky were rated excellent in the student group. Sister Mary Janet's picture is a land scape entitled Negro Shacks. The story of the American actress and the young French naval officer is especially well suited for Miss Mc Carthy's dramatic interpretation. Overture and accompanying music will be furnished by organist Jane Brown, who will also play an organ solo, Toccata, from the Rogers Suite. Miss McCarthy's ushers will be Pa tricia Kelly, Grace O'Connor, Patricia Rocap, Irene Foster, and Betty How ard, all of the drama department. to the University of Chicago. Barbara Lavin, a chemistry major, has been awarded the Edith Bernard fellowship, which includes an assistantship in the department of chemistry at the university. Mildred Welch (right), a classics major, has received a graduate teacher's scholarship, and will work towards her Master's degree. Gala Fashion Show Spotlights Senior And Junior Models Stevens' Grand Ballroom Scene of Annual Card Party With only six days to wait for the Card Party, the seniors lead the col lege in returns with a quota of 124 . Highlight of the annual Card Party to be held in the Grand Ballroom of the Stevens Hotel next Thursday evening, April 27, will be a Fashion Revue sponsored by Russeks. The revue will include sports clothes, suits, afternoon dresses, furs, and sum mer cottons, modelled by members of the junior and senior classes. Senior models are Marcella Gar- rity, Rosemary Gibbons, Larrainc Knaub, Kathleen McNulty, Marie Nordby, Marion O'Brien, Grace O'Con nor, Jeanne O'Malley, La Verne O'Toole, Mary Catherine Quinn, Marion Stoffel, and Geraldine Weber. Models from the junior class are Vi ola Brennan, Mary Grace Carney, Mary Davy, Peggy Donovan. Pcgge Hanson. Florence Miller, June Rettig, Lois Shay. Elected by senior classmates, Pat ricia Kelly will model the bridal gown in the fashion revue; Ruth Anne Mc Carthy will model the gown of the maid-of-honor, and Jane Harriet Mclnerncy will bridesmaids' gowns. Patricia Flynn has been chosen nar rator for the revue, and Dorothy Kle- mundt has been announced as the win ner of the Program Cover Design con test. Lyons model and the Two Seniors Win Scholarships for Continued Study Two members of the senior class. Bar bara Lavin and Mildred Welch, are among the 91 students awarded graduate fellowships and scholarships to the Uni versity of Chicago for 1944-45, according to an announcement by President Rob ert M. Hutchins, of Chicago, this month. A chemistry major, Miss Lavin has been awarded the Edith Bernard fellow ship, which includes an assistantship in the department of chemistry at the university. Miss Lavin will enroll in June. A classics major and co-editor in chief of The Review. Miss Welch has l gt;ccn awarded a graduate teacher's scholarship, and will work toward a Master of Arts degree in Latin language and literature. Instructor Elected To Phi Beta Kappa Betty Lou Leonard, of the biology- department, was elected this month to Phi Beta Kappa, honorary schol astic society, according to a recent announcement from the University of Iowa, from which she was grad uated with a major in biology.
