Alumnae Teach in City Schools Mary Rose Brown '37, tea cher at Lane Technical high school. Virginia Woods '35, who merited a half-scholarship to the University of Chicago, where she took her Master's degree, is instructor in classics and as sistant dean of women at DePaul uni versity. Watching efficient members of the alumnae teachers, writers, home econ omists, librarians welcoming guests to the Caraivalumna on Feb. 25, the casual scribe was prompted to paraphrase Col onel Humphreys, of Purple Heart fame, and say lo herself, Gadsbodikins, scribe, we HAVE an alumnae Perhaps because Mary Frances Burke '34 had received her permanent appoint ment to the staff of Wendell Phillips high school that day, the alumnae seemed especially teacher-conscious. Ann Lally '35, president of the- Alum nae association, having substituted at Lindblom and Amundsen high schools, is now permanently placed at Carl Schtirz. Virginia Meagher '35 is on the staff at Amundsen as an English teacher; Rita Casey '36 teaches French at Sulli van, where Margaret Rice '34 is also on the staff, teaching mathematics. Mary Agnes Tynan '35 was recently made a staff member of the radio coun cil of the Board of Education, where she has charge of the story hour broad cast every Monday through WAAF Miss Tynan is also personnel director for the radio stock company being formed among elementary and second ary school students in the Chicago area, and she was recently appointed writer and producer of the Social Studies group which will be aired over the National Broadcasting Company. Mary Rose Brown '37 is leaching at Lane Technical high school; Ruth Tang ney '35 is assistant principal at a Win- nctka school, and the Collins sisters, Marguerite and Genevieve, both of class '35, arc substituting at different city schools. Mary Ann Walsh '35 is at Harper; Mae Murphy '35 at Tuley; Alice Alex ander '35 at Wells; Alice Mayfield '36 at Tuley, and Mary Jane 'fully '35 at Englewood. Rosemary Walsh '37, is teaching art at Holy Cross, Blessed Sacrament, Our Lady Help of Christians, and Presenta tion Schools, and the art classes ot' Irene Galvin '36 are presenting an exhibit at the Evanston Catholic Wom en's club this week. Helen Bulchunis '37 is teaching home economics at Good Council high school, and Esther Coleman '36 is teaching home economics at Loretto high school' where Margaret Cleary '37 teaches drama. Kathleen Feely '37, teaches drama at Help of Christians, and Ruth Hazle '35 is teaching at Mallinckrodt high school. Lake Michigan produced its own Winterseting when waves dashing against the breakwater at the east end of the library campus coated the bushes and miniature water wheel with inches of ice. North Pole atmosphere on the East campus Catherine Ann Dougherty, Georgette Thoss, and Helen Sheahan satisfy their exploring tendencies in the ice caves, formed after high lake waves sprayed trees on the lake shore. Officers of the Military Order of the Purple Heart and commanders of local army units stand by while His Excellency, the Most Reverend Bernard J. Sheil, D.D.-, and National Commander T. M. Thomson are cited for disting uished service at the premiere performance of the play, The Order of the Purple Heart, on Feb. 22. Leading the military procession from the auditorium after the premiere performance of The Purple Heart are His Ex cellency, the Most Reverend Bernard J. Sheil, D.D., Lt. Col. Danforth, chief of staff of the Sixth Corps area, the Reverend George T/ McCarthy, national chaplain of the Military Order, and Judge John M. McClain, aide-de-camp.
