Page Four SKYSCRAPER Freshman Lead In Interclass Basketball Race Sophomores, Juniors Are Still in Tourney In keeping with the green and red of the Christmas season, green fresh- ies head the list of contenders for the basketball cup as the interclass meet draws to a close. Holding a record of two victories and one defeat, the freshmen are still eyeing the sophomores and juniors, each with a 1 and 1 record, who have yet to meet. The winner of this game will then be tied with the freshmen for first place, and a playoff will be necessary. The freshmen, led by captain Grace (ireely. defeated the seniors 19-5: lost to the juniors 20-17 with Joan Corder scoring all of the freshman points, and then, in a hard-fought contest, won from the sophomores 24-23. Following this defeat, Jean Sophie, captain of the sophomore team, sparked her class to a 28-0 victory over the seniors, aiiled by the sharp-shooting of Charlene Anzalone and Nona Arnoldi. The seniors, who defeated' the jun iors hy forfeit, but lost their other two games, finished the meet in fourth place. Frances Endovina and Sheila Hove led the seniors, while Mary Jane Henry captained the juniors. Volleyball Players Defeat Rosary Team Mundelein s Volleyball team defeated a team from Rosary college. -1-1-2.'. Dec. 3. Members of the Varsity team include Joan Corder. Jewel Crosby. Priest Encourages Devotion To Mary The Reverend Nicholas A. Norman, of St. Francis Xavier's parish, under Sodality auspices, discussed Consecra tion to the Immaculate Heart of Mary, at the assembly, Dec. 7. In honor of the Feast of the Im maculate Conception, Father Norman stressed the need for devotion to the Mother of God. Ski Club Plans Winter Jaunts Despite the weatherman's failure to produce the much-yearned-for snow, the new Ski club continues to make plans for several outings during the Christmas vacation. The club, which was formed this fall, is composed of 40 students from Munde lein and 50 from Loyola. Miss Audrey Sullivan, of the Physical Education department, is director of the club. while the Reverend Richard Tishler, S. J., of Loyola has been appointed honorary chaplain. Students Help Fill Stockings SL Debaters Win Second Place in Tournaments Mundelein debaters took second place in the beginners' tournament held at the University of Illinois, Navy Pier. Dec. 4. Two units, each consisting of one affirmative and one negative team, en tered the contest. Lorraine Stajdohar. senior. Science Forum Will Discuss Planets The mathematical, biological, and chemical knowledge gained by study of the planets will be the topic of dis cussion at the second quarterly meet ing of the Science Forum.
