THE WOMEN'S ATHLETIC ASSOCIATION The Women's Athletic Association has made rapid strides in building up an athletic program open to all students. For membership one must have attended Mundelein for one semester, have earned at least fifty points by participating in athletic contests, and have manifested an active interest in all sports. In October, the charter members pledged seventeen students, who remained on probation until Alarch, when the members declared themselves ready for the harrowing ordeal of initiating thirteen freshmen and four sophomores. After much good-natured fun for both initiators and initiated, the students were formally received into the Association. The W. A. A. is sponsor of all athletic contests staged in the school. From September to June various athletic competition matches between classes took place. First, in the opening season came lively outdoor soccer games played on the fourth-floor roof; close on the heels of soccer followed weeks of basketball practice ending in the spirited interclass tournament; then in rapid succession came volleyball, baseball, swimming, and to climax the athletic year, golf and tennis. On Honors Day, held at the close of the school year, members of the Association were awarded numerals and letters. Numerals were given to all those who during the year earned two hundred fifty points, and small letters were awarded to those having five hundred points. The officers were: Beatrice Marshall, director and coach; Alary Lyon, president; Genevieve Dooner, vice-president; Virginia Kenny, secretary; and Helen Ryan, treasurer. Page 93 3 Hi mm m Mis / m m
