Chemistry Chairman Receives Doctorate Writes Dissertation On Stereochem istry Sister Mary Martinette, B.V.M. chair man of the Chemistry Department, will receive a Doctor of Philosophy degree in Chemistry from the University of Illinois .June 12. Sister's thesis was written on the Ster eochemistry of Complex Inorganic Com pounds, a study of the spatial arrange ment of atoms in highly complex mole cules ami their effect on polarized light. The research work was done during several summers and the past year and a half under the direction of Dr. John C. Bailor, Jr., the outstanding authority in this country on coordination com pounds. ILLINOIS MAY 23, 1949 No. 13 Give Magnificat Medal Tomorrow At Convocation Lousiana Governor oi IFCA Merits Honor A 193d college graduate who is gover nor of the Louisiana chapter of the In ternational Federation of Catholic Alumnae, an active member of the New Orleans Catholic Parent Forum, and the mother of eight children will re ceive the Magnificat Medal at a special convocation tomorrow at 2 p.m.. in the college auditorium. She is Mrs Kelix II. Lapeyre. a graduate of I'rsuline college and of Loyola university. New Orleans, and the wife of a New Orleans attorney. His Eminence, Samuel Cardinal S'ri'.rh. D.D., Chancellor, will present the award, which was established by Mundelein College last year to em phasize the effectiveness of women graduates of Catholic colleges. The Medal winner is selected by a Faculty committee from nominees submitted by deans of Catholic Colleges and by other educational leaders. The ceremony will open with an aca demic procession, including the mem bers of the senior class, ihe Faculty, Mrs. Lapeyre, Sister Mary Josephine. B.V.M., President of the College, and His Eminence, the Cardinal. Sister Mary Josephine will give the Citation; Mrs. Lapeyre will receive the Medal from the Cardinal and give a brief acceptance speech, and the Cardinal will give the Presentation Address. The President, and Faculty, alumni, and student representatives from all the Catholic colleges in the archdiocese have been invited to the Presentation ceremony, and to a reception which will be held in the social rooms at 4 p.m.. Thursday. Regular 2 o'clock Tuesday classes will meet at 1 p.m.. and the student body will assemble at 2 for the Pre sentation ceremony.
