To meet the demands of in creased enrollment, six new facul ty members have joined the staff. ' The Rev. John E. Williams. C.S.Y.. Ph.D., comes to Munde lein's department of religion after two years as director of Spaulding Institute. Father Williams stud ied at St. Viator college. Catholic University of America and the University of Illinois, where he re ceived his doctorate. The composer of the Mundelein college school song. Sister Mary gnatia, B.V.M., joins the English department. Sister Mary gnatia is a graduate of Mundelein. Clarke and Chicago Musical colleges, and the Catholic University of Amer ica. Prior to teaching at Munde lein. Sister was an English instruc tor at Clarke college. Sister Mary Eloise, B.V.M., joins the staff of the Economics depart ment. Sister Mary Eloise attend ed Mundelein and Clarke colleges, and De Paul and Northwestern uni versities. Miss Olive Hanson, who teaches Art Education, is a graduate of the University of Chicago and DePaul university. Miss Hanson is a form er district supervisor of art in the Chicago public schools. Miss Mary Anne Klose. a mem ber of the Physics department, is a Mundelein summa cum laude graduate of the class of '53. Fol lowing graduation. Miss Klose taught at Columbus Hospital School of Nursing. At present she is studying for a Master of Science degree at De Paul. An alumna and former instruc tor returns to Mundelein's Art de partment. Mrs. Elizabeth Kreu- zer Matula also did graduate work at the Chicago Art Institute. She has been variously employed as a teacher and also as a commercial artist in advertising. Presently. Mrs. Matula is engaged in portrai ture commissions. Faculty Member Receives Degree I Sister Mary Marguerite Chris- Itne, B.V.M.. of the Chemistry cle- ktment, has received the first -specialized doctoral degree in Jie graduate school of St. Louis University. Officially, her major was chemistry, with a minor in general science and philosophy. Sister wrote two theses, each car- tying the depth of a doctoral dis sertation but limited in area. The first thesis concerns the laboratory preparation of synthetic muscle re laxants; the second is a case study in the logic of science. Sister holds a Master of Science degree from the State University of Iowa, and has studied at the Catholic University of America and Harvard University. Parent's Clubs Begin Year With Reception The Fathers Club and the Wo men's -Auxiliary helped Freshmen parents become acquainted with Mundelein and with each other at an informal reception. Sept. 24. Mr. Charles Y. Sramck, president of the Fathers Club, and Mrs. James Carroll, president of the Wo men's Auxiliary, were joint chair men for the affair. In the absence of Mr. Sramek, Mr. James Carroll presided at the meeting which marked the beginning of another busy year for the two organiza tions. Aims and advantages of the school were presented in a Faculty panel which covered such topics as prestige and service. The Woman's Auxiliary held a rummage sale Sept. 30 to Oct. 2 for the benefit of the college. Sophomores Tell Cotillion Plans Sophomores are hoping every one will add another bulge to an already bursting scrapbook. They recommend one just the dimen sions of thsir annual Cotillion bid. The dance will be held in the Red Lacquer room of the Palmer House on Thanksgiving night. Johnny Palmer will furnish the music. Two free bids are being offered to the sophomore submitting the winning cover design and verse. Offer Classes For Saturday Scholars A special session of Saturday classes is being offered at Munde lein from 9:00 to 12:25. Courses offered from 9:00 to 10:40 are Metaphysics and Trig onometry for three hours credit: those offered from 10:45 to 12:25 are Constitutional History. Princi ples of Sociology and Dogmatic Theology for three hours credit. The session was instituted espe cially for the convenience of relig ious who are teaching during the week and cannot attend classes on the usual clays, although classes are open to the lay public as well. Freshman Class Lists Leaders The 350 members of the Class of 1958 represent 66 high schools and three states. Included in the new class are six students who led their high school classes academically'. 25 who were members of the National Honor Society and six who were presidents of their class, honor so ciety or Student Council. Catholic high schools sending the largest groups of students are the Immaculata, 40; and St. Scho- lastica, 30. There are 23 represen tatives from the Academy of Our Lady. 22 from St. Mary's and 17 from Aquinas. Scholastic leaders of the gradu ating classes were Mary Ann Cash- man. Milwaukee Pops To Play For Filled Opera House Metropolitan Opera stars Mimi Benzell and Eugene Conley will fill the Civic Opera House with their magnifi cent voices, while Mundelein students fill it with families and friends on Friday, Oct. 22, at 8:30 p.m., for the an nual school benefit. Appearing as soloists with the Milwaukee Pops Or chestra under the direction of David Rose, Miss Benzell and Mr. Conley will offer a selection of semi-classical and fa miliar classical numbers. A featured musical arrangement will be Mr. Rose's own composition. Holiday for Strings. Mary Ann Lashmet, president of Mother Was Freshman Daughter Is One Now Age is creeping up on Munde lein. Oct. 10. from 3 to 5 p.m. Each student will act as hostess for her own parents, introduce them to Administration and Fac ulty members, and guide them on a tour of the classrooms, studios, and laboratories.
