Jim Reardon, 1, and Marty Norville, varsity team members at Loyola, enjoy their Mundelein competition they never had it so easy on the court. Sk f dcrapinaA pina SNIFF SNIFF Christmas always makes your Auntie so sentimental. She gets to thinking about the days of her youth and the wonderful school Christmas Program. Everybody had her piece memorized long before Thanksgiving and all were delighted as practice made it necessary to cut classes short and then abandon them completely a few days before the grand finale. Everything was dribbled with tinsel and green and red paper chains including the portrait of George. All the grades helped in the most ruinous manner imaginable to trim the tree dragged in by the older boys from heaven knows where. After our teacher was sent home with an enormously large headache and the board plat form was completed, the bed-sheet curtains were put up by the ingenious use of safety pins strung on a wire. The teacher then selected the most reliable sixth grader to draw the curtains. Everyone hated him. The last few days the pupils got slightly hysterical and the teacher turned on all her self control. She inevitably cracked up when a young performer after saying his piece made a graceful bow, and forgot he was standing on a platform. When the night finally came our teacher was everywhere at once. She played the opening song, kept track of our pieces backstage, cued lines while she stuffed us into our costumes, padded a too skinny Santa Claus, adjusted angel wings and changed the Christ Child's diaper. During the show, she often paused to hold the hand of a trembling first grader as he blurted out his long-practiced speech. To forget a line would have broken his heart and disap pointed his parents, but to walk out on that stage in front of all those people was impossible without a little moral support. Just as tiny eyelids were droop ing, the jingling of cow bells announced the arrival of the school-board Santa. The night ended with Silent Night sung by a nervous soprano borrowed from the church choir. She wasn't much of a soloist, but she sure sounded good at Christmastime. Her singing was so spell-binding that we all forgave each other, and we even forgave our teacher and even the sixth grader who got to pull the curtain. We were all part of the greatest, most glorious thing, even if the second grader who played the innkeeper did nearly ruin the show by asking Joseph and Mary in for cookies and milk. Our parents smiled and applauded, and each said in their hearts as we appeared on that excuse for a stage, That's my son, that's my daughter. Campuses Celebrate At Crib Ceremony As a prelude to candlelighting, Loyola has invited Mundelein students to participate in the blessing of the crib at Madonna della Strada Chapel on Dec. 19 at 3:30 p.m. A premiere performance by Loyola's newly organized Glee Club and the presentation of colors by the drill team will open the ceremonies in the chapel. Songs by the Dental School choir, the reading of the martyrology and Sol emn Benediction with Rev. Carl Bur- lage, S.J., as celebrant, will also take place there. After a candlelight procession to the campus behind the chapel, Father Burlage will bless the crib while all participants join the Glee Club and Dental School choirs in a series of familiar carols. This is Loyola's second crib cere mony and is sponsored by the Presi dent's Council, a group of 15 student executives of campus organizations. The Terrapin Club has pushed back the date of the annual water ballet from February to April 23, 24, 25. Senior comprehensives in February get credit for the switch of dates. Head Coach George Ireland Go Go Go Ramblers' Games Enlivened By White-bloused Rooters With a white blouse christening Mundelein will initiate its cheering section for Loyola's Varsity basket ball team at the Loyola (New Or leans)-Loyola game Wednesday, Dec. 21, 8 p.m. in the Alumni Gym. Loyola suggested that Mundelein don white in keeping with the Loyola Men's Dormitory white-shirted cheer ing section. The residents' pep squad will serve as the backbone of the spirited en deavor. In cooperation with Loyola's cheerleaders they plan to practice standard cheers and compose a few original ones. The practices are open to all students. Time and place will be posted on the sports bulletin board. Kaye welcomes any suggestions since the idea is in beginning stages. For information contact Kaye Coyne, 652, Mary Jo Murray, 760 or any of the SAC officers or representatives. Loyola also hopes to secure a bus for Mundelein to the LU-Marquette game in Milwaukee, Jan. 4. The fee will be about 2. First come, first served the reservation list will be posted on the sports bulletin board tomorrow. SMILING IN ANTICIPATION of Mundelein's cheering section at Loyola (l.-r.)
