New Advisor: Sister Marilou Den'oo. formerly secretary to Sister Mary Griffin, academ ic dean, has been appointed assistant to the academic dean In charge of freshman and sophomore academic ad vising and consultant for freshman class activities. Sister replaces Mrs. Susan TePas. Commenting on the new ly-developed underclassman advisory program. Sister Marilou cites its greatest ad vantages to be: 1. freeing freshman and sophomore ad visors from the responsibili ty of academic counseling, thus enabling the relation ship with their advisers to extend beyond the realm of making out schedules and and reports and 2. cen tralizing the academic coun seling in one office so that students know where they can always seek this kind of advice. A history major as a Mun delein undergraduate. Sister came to Mundelein two years ago after having been on the faculty of St. Xavier high school, St. Louis. Mo. Deans' Conference: Sister Mary Griffin, academic dean, attended the twenty- fourth annual American Con ference of Academic Deans in Minneapolis, Minn.. Jan. 15. Held in conjunction with the Association of American Colleges, the theme of the conference was The Prob lem of Bigness and Small- ness in Colleges and Univer sities. Sister is a member of the executive committee of the conference. Immedi ately following this confer ence, the dean and Sister Ann Ida Gannon, president, attended the meeting of the American Association of Col leges also held in Minne apolis. Jan. 16-17. junior Class: Mother Goose Revisited will be the theme of Junior Class Day. Jan. 24. The juniors, dressed as their favorite Mother Gcose char acters, will attend a mass in Lewis Center at 5:00 p.m. and have dinner afterwards. Sister Dolores Dooley, dressed as Mother Goose, will discuss the philosophy of this fairy tal character. Mary Cooney. Vicki Gran- acki and Rosemary Sokolik will sing parodies taken from Mother Goose based on Mundelein experiences. President at CSCA: Sister Ann Ida Gannon, president, at tended the Central States College Association conven tion. Jan. 17-19. Book Gift: The library at the Mundelein Center for Reli gious Education received a 100 gift of books. Jan. 16 from the American Jewish Committee. Chicago Chap ter. Chapter Chairman Je rome Comer and Regional Director Joel Ollander were on hand to make the presen tations. Mundelein was able to choose the books which are materials on Judaism and Jewish - Christian rela tions. Some of these books will also go to the main li brary. Library Grant: The Associa tion of College and Research Libraries awarded the Mun delein College Library a grant of 500. The grant will be used to begin a spoken arts record collection. The College will match the amount of the grant with outside gifts. In addition to records, the necessary stor age equipment will be pur chased. French Scholarships: Five scholarships of 1,000 each are available to qualified students applying to the In stitute for American Univer sities for an academic year at Aix-en-Provence. in South ern France. In addition, an S800 French Government Scholarship, reserved for French majors, and 25 tui tion grants, are awarded each year. Information about the Institute for Amer ican Universities is available in the French Department. Air Academy: Winter term may be cold and monoto nous, but five seniors will be rewarded during spring va cation with a three day tour of the Air Force Academy and Cheyenne Mountain. Barb Barrock, Fran Butzen, Diane L-tily. Mary McMor row and Marty Nesbitt were chosen from those who wrote letters expressing interest In learning about Air Force ca reers. The girls will fly to Colorado Springs, home of the Academy, by Air Force jet. Their expenses include a minimum amount for ac commodations and meals. They will reside at the Acad emy and dine in the officer's quarters. Plan tour of Spain Granada, the cher ished capital of the Moor ish Empire. Toledo, an open - air museum of Spanish History and so phisticated lively Ma drid. If these descrip tions sound like a travel agency brochure of Spain and Portugal, they are. However, the brochure is a special one. since the agency is Mundelein College. In conjunction with Iberia Air Lines, Mun delein will sponsor a summer study tour of Spain and Portugal from July 10 to Sept. 4. 1968. The tour will Include 28 days of travel through the Iberian peninsula and on gt; month of study at the Universidad Interna- cional Menindez Pelayo in Santander. Spain.
