Assisting Miss De Bar tolo with general arrange ments is Sophomore Class President Jeri McGrath. Day of Prayer Gives Peaceful End to Quarter Father Gerard G. Grant, S.J., of Loyola university, will conduct the first Recollection day of the academic year, Friday, Nov. 20. The day's schedule opens with Holy Mass celebrated at 9:30 a.m., in the auditorium. Students may receive Holy Communion and have breakfast in the tea room or in the gymnasium. Conferences will be at 11 a.m., 1:15 p.m., and 2:15 p.m., and the day will close with Benediction of the Most Blessed Sacrament. Students who are unable to at tend all three days of Recollection, scheduled for Nov. 20, Feb. 26, and April 30, and students who prefer to make a closed retreat, may make reservations with the Dean. By vote of the student body, the Days of Recollection, introduced ex perimentally last year as a substitute for the three day campus retreat required of all students, are retained this year. Organists for Recollection day will be Mary Ellen Casey, Moonyeen Brown, and Carol Schatleben. Vive La Senior Class Tomorrow Is Its Day Making arrangements for the hy bids with their gold Munde- Ibj crests set against red back bonds are Patricia Frankovic, lei Ann Blume, Charlotte Dohr, s Kengott, and Mary Apel. Joan Debrecht, Marion Ken nedy, Virginia Pasternak, and Thirty-five members of the Class of 1954 are planning Senior Class day, which will take the social spotlight tomorrow afternoon, Joan Dawson, class president, has an nounced. Festivities will begin at 5:30 p.m. with the recitation of the Rosary in the Chapel. Dinner served at 6 p.m., will be followed by entertainment in the Social Room. General chairman of the day is Mary Breen. Members of the Invitations com mittee are chairman Judy Czarnik, Angela Chemazar, Nancy McHugh, Regina Rauchas, Rose Zingarelli, Rosemary Jones, Mary Lou Rohl fing, Constance Butler, and Helen Friel. Assisting on the Dinner Commit tee, are Joan Jiganti, Joan Horan, Dorothy Schneider and Eleanor Kretzer, Kathryn Wright is chairman. Chairmen Frances Butler and Dana Parducci will be aided on the Rehabilitation committee by Ann McCarty, Margaret Shannon, and Ginger Walsh. Publicity committee members headed by Margaret Yuhas are Lu cille Hamilton, Sylvia Grigul, Jo Ann Picola, Betty Bogie, and Mar tha Meyers. In charge of Entertainment is Noreen Ryan. Ann Fitzgerald, Mary Ann Piskosz,, Patricia Reilly, Kay Lamb, Joan Overholt, Diane Vainowski, Ruth Gleason, and Mel ita Lynch are members of the com mittee. Four Debaters, One Folk Tale Teller Compete at Bradley Mundelein debaters will take part in a debate tournament at Bradley university, Peoria, Nov. 20-21. Speaking for the affirmative will be Mary Francis Chambliss and Pa tricia Tierney, while Faith Farley and Mary Agnes Moran will be neg ative debaters. The tournament will consist of four rounds. Participating in a folk telling con test at Bradley, Melita Lynch will give a reading, The Devil and Dan iel Webster. Will Emphasize Patriotism, Privileges Of Citizenship At Formal Convocation Faculty Will Meet Qovernor and Mrs. Stratton at Reception in Social Rooms His Excellency, William G. Stratton, Governor of Illinois, will give a patriotic address at a formal Thanksgiving convocation, Thursday, Nov. 19, in the auditorium, at 2 p.m. Turning the academic spotlight on the true meaning of Thanks giving, the Convocation will stress the American heritage of freedom and responsible citizenship. Sister Mary John Michael, B.V.M., President of the College, will introduce the Governor. Father Michael Dempsey, A.M., of the Religion department, will give the Invocation. The entire assembly will sing The Star Span gled Banner. The Faculty procession will form at 2 p.m., in the second floor cor ridor, and will follow the Seniors into the auditorium. George Petterson, A.M., of the Drama department, will serve as marshal. Marianne Krzysik and Mary El len Casey will he organists for the Processional and the Star Span gled Banner. Two o'clock classes will meet at 1 p.m., Thursday. Three and four o'clock classes will meet as usual. Following the Convocation, Governor and Mrs. Stratton will be honor guests at a Faculty recep tion in the social rooms. A graduate of the University of Arizona, Governor Stratton served as State Treasurer from 1943-1944. He resigned to serve as a lieuten ant in the Navy and was assigned to the Asiatic theatre. Returning to public service in 1947, he served as Congressman. In 1951 he was reelected State Treas urer, and in November, 1952 he was elected Governor of Illinois. Sodaiists To Hear Faculty Members Mental prayer will be the topic of a Sodality lecture by Father Michael Dempsey, A.M., of the Religion depart ment, Nov. 18. Father John P. Downey, S.J. of the Philosophy depart ment will speak to the Sodai ists on confessions, its impor tance and effects, Nov. 24. Mark Motu Proprio Anniversary At Fall Concert The annual Fall concert, Nov. 24 at 1 p.m., will commemorate the fiftieth anniversary of Motu Proprio, the Encyclical on Church music issued by Blessed Pope Pius X in 1803. The entire Church celebrates this year the reform in liturgical music, instituted by the recently beatified Pius X, and gradually being adopted all over the world. Opening the concert, the Glee club will sing the American premiere of Ave Maria by Mertens. Included in the Glee club's first group of selections will be We Praise Thee, O God, by Sateren, the Gregorian Salve Regina, and In These Delightful Pleasant Groves, by Purcell. Mr. Adalbert Huguelet directs the Glee club of 54 voices, and Marianne Krzysik is the accom panist. Piano solos will include Papillions by Schumann, played by Joan Kies, and Rondo Capriccioso, Opus 14, by Mendelssohn, played by Mary Frances Chambliss. Emily Kloc will play Franck's organ selection, Chorale in A Mi nor, and Jeanne Regan will climax the concert with the First move ment of Rachmaninoff's piano Con certo in D Minor, for which Vera Eng will play orchestral parts at the second piano. Mary Ann Piskosz will sing a selection from Don Giovanni, by Mozart, and Joyce Knox will sing Morning, by Speaks. Madonna Toney's vocal selection will be Chacun le Sait from Le Fille du Regiment by Donizetti, and Ginger Walsh will sing Sea Moods, by Tyson. Accompanists will be Angela Fa vale, Mary Agnes Moran, Miss Krzysik, and Rosemary Ernst.
