Sophomores Score 34 Points, Win Swim Trophy Freshmen Place Second, Seniors Third A strong Sophomore team retained its swimming championship in the In ter-Class Swimming meet, held last Thursday, by a margin of 3 points. The closeness of the contest in apparent from the final scores: Sophomores, 34; Freshmen, 31; Seniors, 28; and Jun iors, 4. Jane McMurray took the first event, a 40-yard free style, for the seniors, but Paula Barthell, captain of the freshman team, surged ahead in the 40-yard backstroke and later in the 100-yard backstroke. Lillian Muza, high point swimmer, stroked to easy victory in the 40 and 100-yard breast stroke competitions as well as the 60-yard individual medley. Besides winning the 100-yard free style, Rita Marie Augustin placed first in the diving competition, the decisive event of the meet, with a score of 37.3. Lois Cunningham, freshman, rated 36.5; Margaret Greene, senior, 29.8; and Barbara Lundgren, junior, 22.2; for their diving efforts. Sophomore team work of Shirley Dunmore, Anna Mac Kohl, and Mary Jane Comerford merited first place for them in the 60-yard medley relay. Eileen Rooney, Jean Irmiter, Martha Lou Edwards, and Miss Barthell earned 9 points for the freshmen team in the 80-yard free-style relay. All-Stars Vie With Alumnae In Basketball Sophomores Triumph In College Tourney The All-Star Basketball team will play the Alumnae on Thursday, Feb. 21, at 8 p.m., in the College gymnasium. Regina Bess will captain the All- Stars, who include Frances Endovina, Marianne Shaw, Noreen Roche, Lynn Larson, Catherine McLaughlin, Jose phine Roche, Ella Endries, and Doro thy Case. In charge of the Alumnae team arc three members of the Class of 1946, Jean Spatuzza, Lenore Brockhaus, and Maura Roche. For their undefeated record in the College Basketball tournament, the sophomores will receive gold trophies on Honors Day in May. Defeating the seniors in a 32-12 vic tory, the winning team, including Eileen O'Shea, Katherine Burwitz, Cecilia Beck, Ethel McGuire, Jeanne Smith, Betty Jane Crawford, Marilou East- hope, and Marianne Lynch, won the tournament on Jan. 23. Playing for the seniors were Mar garet Greene, Margaret Harvey, Es- telle Guest, Aileen Ahem, Josephine Roche, Francine Lamb, Patricia Sly, and Jeanne McNulty. Winning second place, the junior team was defeated only by the sopho mores. The freshmen lost to the seniors on Feb. 11 by a 12-8 margin. 'Let It Snow It's only a tree on the east campus, but to these four winter-weekend en thusiasts it is a foretaste of the snow sports they will enjoy at Lake Delevan. Chairmen of the three winter weekends the Sports department is sponsoring are Shirley Dunmore, Nancy Prindiville, Rita Marie Augustin, and Mary Beth Zeiner. The last Snow Sports weekend will be March 1-3. Sports Director Returns from Florida Among the memories of a mid-winter vacation spent in Miami Beach, Miss Eileen Scanlon, physical education di rector, lists a glimpse of Winston Churchill and lessons in the art of water skiing. Being Midwest judge of synchronized swimming, Miss Scanlon attended one of the first contests of this type to take place in Florida. Sodality Stresses Catholic Reading Stimulating interest in Catholic peri odicals through posters, bulletin board announcements, and similar promotion, the Catholic literature committee of the Sodality is centering its Catholic Press Month drive on encouraging students to read Catholic magazines in the home. At the general Sodality meeting on Feb. 19, Georgianna MacGrcgor re viewed Cervantes' book, That You May Live, and Patricia Hollahan led a dis cussion of the chapter entitled Paul to the Modern. St uicra pinad Study Roles in Mystery Play . . Virginia Perry, Frank Leyhane, Marshall Smulson, Dolores Toniatti, and Stephen Erd are among the Mundelein and Loyola students who will star in Murder in a Nunnery, which will be presented in the College theatre on March l and 3 at 8 p.m. (Story on Page 1.) Come rain-drop, come snowflake conic cloudburst, come blizzard naught can keep fun-loving freshmen, scin tillating sophomores, jaunty juniors, and sophisticated seniors away from Stardust, soft lights, sweet music. At the Sophomore Cotillion at the University of Notre Dame, Margaret Wolf danced and danced and danced. Ditto Vivian Leonard, Mary Ellen Si mon, Lorraine Rosch, Elaine Sullivan, Marilyn Tamburrino, and Jeri Man gold, who attended a dance at Glenview Naval Air station on Feb. 12, and the 120 students who were guests of the air cadets at a party on Feb. 15. We still hear wonderful tales of Christmas holidays well-spent ... and surely it's not too late to retell them. Genevieve Engel and Marikay Hart hung up their almost-nylons in Florida . . . Washington, D. C, played Christ mas host to Rosemary Hillsman. An impromptu Mundelein music- lovers' hour is an apt synonym for Schubert's Blossom Time with Mat- cella Volini, Mary Wood Stussey, Bar bara Feldhake, Mary and Joan Eng- bring, Frances Kuehner, and Maiie Murphy as audience. At Cornell college in Mount Vernon, Iowa, Lois York, Claire Johnson, Eileen Dolan, and Patricia Nealin spent a won derful weekend. Rosemary O'Donnell attended the Senior Ball at St. Mary's college in Minnesota. Still the most regal in the theatre's Royal Family, Ethel Barrymore held spellbound Peggy Roach, Margatet Mary Kaindl, Mary Kay O'Leary, Ann Regan, Virginia Darovic, Mary Ellen Martin, Grace Leckie, Grace Schaai, Virginia Neff, MaryEllen Blouin, Pa tricia Conley, Florence Jankowski, and Mary Ann Anderson with her portrayal of the nun in Philip Barry's The Joyous Season. Lillian Muza and Mary Kay Dooley watched the master, Jascha Heifetz, at his concert recently. The other evening, Margaret Brufke stole away from a gay evening at the Panther Room with Cab Calloway's autograph. The same evening, another room, and other people it was Grace Wurst and Patricia Lorigan at the Boulevard Room. It was a wonderful evening at the Bismark, say Mary Margaret Biehle, Janet Tyler, and Mary Ellen Griffin. Marilyn Feery at Old Heidleberg, Elaine Frankel at the Buttery, and Jeannette Brander at the Panther Room account for a variety of people and a variety of places, too. But each had the same conclusion, namely, a good time,
