Debaters Welcome 15 Neighboring Colleges To Tournament, Dec* 13 Fifteen neighboring colleges and uni versities have received invitations to the Debate club's first Invitational Be ginners' tournament, to be held here Saturday, Dec. 13. Marquette univer sity, the University of Chicago, Mount Mary college, Northwestern university, Wheaton college, Bradley university, and Lake Forest college are among those invited. Students in their first debate season will participate in four rounds of de bates. Laetare Players Sponsor Clinic For High Schools With a view to giving professional service to amateur dramatic groups, the Drama department will sponsor a Drama Clinic for secondary schools on Saturday. Feb. 28. Authorities will speak on various as pects of dramatic art and production, such as play selection, casting, scenery construction, costuming, make-up, act ing, voice, and diction. As a climax to the day's activities, a full-length play, directed by Therese Marie Cuny, will be presented. The ac tors in the winning plays at Loyola's i ne-act play festival will he invited to participate in this play. Music will be furnished by a 40-piece high school orchestra consisting of members selected from the All-Cath olic High School Orchestra. Joseph J. drill will be the director. Soviet Authority To Address Voters Waldemar Gurian, authority on Rus sia, will address the International Re lations club, members and alumnae of the Sociology department, and mem bers of the Mundelein and North Shore units of the League of Women Voters, in the auditorium, tomorrow at 8 p. m. Mr. Gurian, who has made a study of conditions in the Soviet, is editor of the Review of Politics and head of the department of Political Science at the University of Notre Dame. Mistletoe Sale Aids Southern Missionary Kappa Phi Omega will handle the packaging, promotion, and selling of mistletoe to students during the Christmas season. The charity was begun last year, when arrangements were made with the Reverend H. Montambeau, C. SP, of Muskogee, Oklahoma, who pro vides the mistletoe. The proceeds of the sale will go to a building fund to provide a school for the children in his parish. Steering committee members are Mary Claire Lane, president of the Debate club; Ellcnmae Quan, Mary Lou Hafner, Patricia Dannehy, and Barbara Fallon. Hostesses will be Lynne Larsen, Marcella Mulveil, Erin Glynn, and Charlene Beesley. Two debate teams from De Paul university will meet Barbara Fallon, Patricia Dannehy, Patricia Frey, and Carol Higgins, here on December 9. Their subject will be, Resolved: That Federal World Government Should Be Established. Northwestern university representa tives debated the same resolution here on Nov. 24 with Miss Quan, Miss Lane, Helen Jean Rogers, and Gloria Aucr- bacb. Miss Quan, Miss Lane, Miss Hafner, and Miss Rogers met Loyola uni versity Nov. 21 to debate the World Government question. Science Forum Presents Quarterly Seminar on Color Members of the Science Forum will go over the rainbow, when their first quarterly seminar considers color and its relation to science at 4 p. m. on Dec. 2, in room 405. Each science club will present two phases of color. Dorothy Schmugge and Connie Naples, representing the Biology club, will discuss the Eye and Color and Psychology of Color; Ethel Ann Mc- (iuirc, and Virginia Sversky from the Chemistry club will consider Atomic Structure and Chemistry of Color. Marjorie Boyd and Eileen McSwce- ney of the Mathematics club will dis cuss Colorimetry and The Physics of Color. Musicians, Artists, Dramatists, Present Christmas Cantata Students Re-enact Nativity Scenes And of his kingdom there shall be no end. Re-echoing the holy message of Bethlehem, the Glee club, the Or chestra, the Drama, and the Art depart ments will present their annual Christ mas program, Under the Stars, Sun day evening. Dec. 14. at 8 p.m., in the College theatre. The College orchestra, directed by Joseph J. Grill, will open the program with Frno Rapee's Christmas Bells. Fol lowing will be the Glee club's presenta tion of traditional Christmas carols. Lowens' Laudate; Silent Night, arrang ed by Vernon; Davis' Shepherd Awake; Mozart's Christmas Lullaby; and The Sleigh by Kountz. Sing Solo Parts Mary Kaye Tentinger and Mary Mc Carthy will sing solos in Vovis' Three Shepherds, and LaVerne Galiano, The rese Giovannelli, and Miss Tentinger will sing as a trio. Adalbert Huguelct directs the Glee club. The Coming of the Prince of Peace, a cantata with orchestral accompaniment composed by June Murphy '45, will be staged. Arise, O Jerusalem, the opening chor us, will have as soloist Miss Tentinger and in the accompanying tableau Pa tricia Meany will appear as prophet. Gentle contrast will envelop the tab leau of the Annunciation with Miss Mc Carthy as soloist, and Mary Margaret Doyle and Rosemary Martin appearing as Virgin and the Angel Gabriel. Depict Visitation Mary Heinz will sing The Magnifi cat as Margaret Benza portrays the Virgin in the tableau. The chorus, to gether with soloists Jaync Novotny, Therese Giovannelli, and Luella Schall, and the shepherds portrayed by Marion Schmidt, Mary Lou Hackett, and Mary Graff, and Angela O'Hara as the angel, will enact the fourth tableau. The Cantata will continue with Grace Komornicki singing The Virgin's Lul laby, with Genevieve O'Connor as the Virgin, and Patricia Conley as St. Joseph. Completing the scenes will be the Coming of the Magi with Miss Ten tinger as soloist and a tableau depicted by Rita Millen, Eileen Brucker, and Corinne Carelin. The joyful Hallelujah chorus from the Messiah will be the finale, with Jo- Ann Logclin appearing as the Madonna, Patricia Shine and Margaret Mary Campbell portraying angels and Helen Sullivan as the Christ Child. Faculty Members Attend Conventions Sister Mary Carmelyn, B.V.M., of the Art department, took part in a panel discussion on Safety Education, at the National Conference on Education for Democratic Human Relations, spon sored by the American Education Fel lowship at the Stevens hotel, Nov. 29. Moderator of the Safety Council and of the campus unit of the Red Cross, Sister Mary Carmelyn has served on two of President Truman's Safety com missions. Sister is director of safety education in the archdiocesan schools. 22 Will Be Received Into Sodality, Dec. 4 Twenty-two students will be received into the Sodality of Our Lady at the annual Reception Ceremony, on Thurs day, Dec. 4, at 1 p. m., in the audi torium. Traditionally, the Reception is held shortly before the Feast of the Immacu late Conception.
