Ireland is counting on six letter- men and eight men up from last season's spectacular freshman team to pace the Ramblers to a mark better than the 15 wins they re corded in 23 starts a year ago. Harkness Heads List A steadying influence will be pro vided by the six lettermen. Head ing the list is Jerry Harkness, who smashed three all-time Loyola scor ing records last year. Harkness, a 6' 2 junior from the Bronx, N. Y., scores most of his points on a soft, left-handed push shot. He is at his best in clutch situations, as was shown by his Faculty Promotes Catechetics, Math, Student Teachers Faculty spends time on panels, field trips and at meetings. Also returning from last season's lineup will be Mike Gavin, a 6' sen ior, who was third highest scorer with 284 points and an 11.4 aver age. Gavin caught the fancy of Chicago Stadium fans when he scored 19 points in the 83-82 upset of Detroit, and then came back ten days later with 28 points to lead Loyola's upset of Marquette, 81-78. Co-captain John Crnokrak, a 6'4 senior, averaged only five a game last season, but used his 215 pounds to grab 179 rebounds, third high on the team. Other returning lettermen are co-captain Jerry Verwey, a 6' guard playing his third varsity sea son; Alan Ray, a flashy six-footer who can break a game open when he hits a hot shooting streak; and Jim Reardon, 6' 5 forward, who will help under the boards. Rear don is a junior. Verwey and Ray are seniors. Sophs Add Height It's the sophomores, however, who provide the height that Loyola needs. Almost certain to break into the starting lineup are 6'7 Leslie Hunter at center and 6'6 Vic Rouse at forward. They teamed up to give Pearl High School in Nashville, Tenn., a Negro national high school championship and a string of 54 straight wins. Rich Rochelle, 6'9 ; Floyd Bos ley, 6'7 ; and Nick Pallotta, 6'4 will give depth to the front line. Battling for guard spots will be Chuck Wood, 6'3 ; Ron Miller, 6'1 ; and Jack Egan, 5'10 .
