April 8, 1964 THE SKYSCRAPER Page Three Council Office Seekers Outline Aims NF Delegates Promise Campus Communication Stress Little Sister Help, Club Week V. P. Candidates Discuss '64 Big Sister, CCB Plans Donna Ibison The senior delegate of the Na tional Federation of Catholic Col lege Students is the important link between her campus and the fed eration on both the regional and national levels. She carries the ideas of her Student Council to re gional meetings. She translates the programs suggested to be ef fective on her own campus. This is achieved by working closely with the Club Coordination Board and by serving as a member of the SAC. As the SAC all-school meet ing has shown, the SAC has been evaluating its role at Mundelein and investigating the need of a reorientation. NF, as well as NSA, assists the SAC in directing its awareness to happenings in Chicago, the nation and the world. NFCCS gives national significance to what students think and feel. The senior delegate cannot work alone. Because NF cannot func tion fully without communication with the clubs, a campus commit tee consisting of one member from each club will play a vital role next year in NF's activities. The role of senior delegate is not an easy one. For NF to be effec tive at Mundelein, the senior dele gate must be active. If elected, I will strive to fulfill these duties. Rosemary Golofit NFCCS is and should be an im portant information instrument in the hands of the Catholic college student. Through NF, students attain a Catholic background on local, national, international and school affairs. It is the duty of the junior delegate to assist the senior delegate in any way she can to present such affairs to the students in a way that will be beneficial to them. It is also the duties of the junior delegate to present through out the course of study NF's serv ice to the students, keeping them mindful of their duties as Catholic citizens. As junior delegate of Mun delein College, I would hold a vote at regional and national meetings. I would cooperate in every way with the senior dele gate. We would work together to present the best and latest programs to the students. As junior delegate, I would also be chairman of the NFCCS travel program which consists of stu dent tours to Europe. By en couraging these tours I would be promoting a deeper under standing of Western Europe's economy and their peoples. I am willing to do all I can to present NF and its services to you. Are you willing to use them? NSA Coordinator Lists Goals, Commends Sigma Tau Sigma Joann Caracci Eliminating introductory rheto ric, there are, as I see it, three ma jor campus objectives for next term's USNSA program. Placing the emphasis on Mundelein's NSA, these three objectives are: to in vestigate the possibility of pro moting an off-campus residency non-discriminatory clause; to re search, with the academic affairs committee, the apparent inconsis tencies of the present semester sys tem; to continue the vitalization of Sigma Tau Sigma * the student tutor society. Each of these proj ects are, of course, subjects to review and/or report to the stu dent government. This first objective, the off- campus residency non-discrim inatory clause, would be inves tigated by the civil rights committee (jointly chaired with the NFCCS senior dele gate) and coordinated with the Dean of Students' cilice. The second objective, the appar ently inconsistent semester system, would be researched by a NSA-appointive committee. The services of USNSA's Stu dent Government Information Service and the referral to the SAC academic affairs commit tee would channel the action of this objective. The continued vitalization of Sigma Tau Sigma would be under the direction of an appointed NSA staff member. The program would continue throughout the academic year. Mundelein's participation as a member school in regional (111.- Wis.) and national NSA is more difficult to map out. Besides the vital exchange of ideas that exists between member schools, Mundelein should be aware of both the issues and politics of legislation so its delegation may vote decisively. In addition, it is time Mundelein sub mitted more than two bills per year and it is time the interested sector of the student body was influential on and informed of the drawing up of legislation. The summary duties of an NSA coordinator are then, to appoint an efficient campus staff, to map out a specific campus program, to co-chair the civil rights committee, to prepare and organize a knowl edgeable delegation to regional meetings and national con gresses, to present to the stu dent body the rationale of the NSA program for opinion, to closely cooperate with the ad ministration, to remain a par ticipating member of the stu dent government; in short, to effect, affect and communicate. Sue Charlevois The office of second vice presi dent of the SAC requires a girl who must not only be aware of the prob lems of the present student body but must also have an insight into any and all problems which might face new students. It is up to the second vice presi dent to foster impressions of Mun delein which will be established as standards to be upheld by new freshmen. It is her duty to make these new students feel welcome and at ease in their new surround ings. I, Susan Charlevois, will promote the instigation and execution of these policies to the best of my ability. I will see to it that the procedure for choosing Big Sisters is unified and well-defined as well as being implicitly stated in the constitution. Not only must the second vice president carry out the duties of the Big Sister chairmanship, but she must also be an active member of the Student Activities Council. It is imperative that she be able to take the place of the president if necessary. As a result of my work on nu merous committees, my chairman ship of some, and my experience as a Big Sister, I feel that I am ca pable of carrying out the office of the second vice president of the Student Activities Council. Set Deadline Application deadline for the Woodrow Wilson Fellowship Foun dation test is April 10. Informa tion is available in the Academic Dean's office, 203. This would also in clude an intensive study of how NFCCS and NSA activities can be more fully related to the better ment of this college community so as to warrant the great monetary expenditures granted these organi zations during the year. I feel qualified to handle this position of first vice president in all its phases after having served on the executive board as the SAC treasurer (1962-63), acted as presi dent of the related arts club this past year, and been publicity chair man for this year's variety show.
