THE GLEE CLUB This year the Glee Club enrollment has increased to forty, despite such difficulties as conflicts of class schedules, and the skill and enthusiasm of the singers has increased accordingly. Even the prospect of singing solos for the instructor did not dampen the ardor of the members, whose diligent rehearsals and cooperation have made the organization a source of keen enjoyment, as well as of distinct achievement. Under the able direction of Professor Otto Singenberger, the club have acquired knowledge and appreciation of the finer European and American compositions, and of early polyphonic music. The St. Cecilia program, the ceremony of the Enthronement of the Sacred Heart on Senior Sunday, the Alundelein Mosaics, the carols of the candle- lighting procession, and Retreat, not to mention a host of other occasions, were enlivened by the contributions of the Glee Club, although its outstanding successes for the year were the pre-Christmas entertainment and the annual spring concert. Of haunting and exquisite beauty was the Christmas cantata, Silver Tidings of the Star. Alfred Noyes' Slumber Songs of the Madonna the songs which, of all others, might have come from the heart of Alary sung to the poignant music composed for them by Mae Strong, a Chicago composer, were illustrated by the Laetare Players in unique tableaux. The spring concert, which was a tremendous success, showed remarkable tone quality, flexibility of voice, and versatility, its numbers ranging from plaintive negro spirituals to the Vere Languor es of Lotti. 7i 0 , - ' S m ,gjp gt; N I * l?* gt;
