The five-dayer had a short supply line to those nice ties and homely comforts which the seven-dayer, forced to travel light, could not pack into her trunk or carry on the plane, all those bulky luxuries like stereos and stuffed sword- fishes, perishables like cookies and cakes, deposited along with the flve-dayer every Sun day by public spirited parents. If such contact with the home- front Is cut off. the entire dorm community will be placed in the imponderable po sition of having to subsist on the bare necessities. And for an army that travels so pre dominately on its stomach, such a blow would be crip pling indeed. THE far-reaching effects of the President's policy in Viet Nam are finally filtering into grass-roots awareness. Witness the experience of a SKY SCRAPER staffmember whose aspect of receptivity to Public Opinion evoked the following spontaneous diatribe in the post office. STAFF MEMBER: Do you have air mail stickers? POSTAL CLERK: No, we ran out. The government's not making them anymore. S.M: Why not? P.C. They're in the red from Viet Nam. They can't spare any money for airmail stickers. S.M.: Oh. P.C. They don't tell us where our money's going, nobody knows what's going on over there. They won't tell us the truth. S.M. Where else can I get airmail stickers? (Abashed exit.) The usual exuberant spirits prevailed at Mundelein's lat est panel presentation on Viet Nam. One of the participants, a chic former journalist who had been There and back, bid the audience, with a melo dramatic I-could-move-world- if -1 - had - a - place - to - put- the fulcrum flourish, consider what would become of the babies crying in Viet Nam vil lage streets were the U.S. Ma rines not there to comfort them. THE LOYOLA NEWS cap tioned a photograph of the re cent Carnage euphemistically referred to (if referred to at all) as the Mundelein - Barat football game, thusly: Munde lein girls display losing form against brawnier Barat. Now, to point up our loss is ungal- lant enough, but to imply that we've developed a form for that sort of thing is heinous. Mundelein proved victorious in the concomitant Psychologi cal Warfare when its cheering section nobly renounced Pre tence and all its Pomps with the arrogant, question-begging chant: We're Real Girls INTEMPERATELY, TULLY : over night case I.
