ZOOLOGY CLASSES CORONATION Virginia Sweeney Agnes Gill Gloria Barry Violet Parks LANDMARKS Thinking over the past year, we recall moments of special loveliness that will remain with us always. First among these is the Alass of the Holy Ghost, the consecration of this year of our lives to learning, under the guidance of the Holy Spirit, lessons that will enable us to live fully and nobly. During the ceremony, prayers ascended, continuous as a spiral of smoke from the lasting fire of love for the Alaster. Came Senior Sunday, the Feast of Christ the King. Stately young women, each bearing a crimson rose, marched solemnly, impressively, to render their first tribute as seniors to Christ the King. Through the marble halls they went, to the corridor near the Chapel, where the Enthronement of the Sacret Heart took place. December brought the Feast of the Immaculate Conception, Pledge Day. To their own promises to Alary, earnest students added a pledge of loyalty to their college a pledge that explains service more generous than can be prompted by thought of reward. In the deep twilight of the last day before Christmas recess passers-by paused, their eyes turned toward the college. The sound of voices gently echoed from within. Suddenly the dark was set a-twinkle, as a cross of flickering candlelight shone, and joyful voices rang out from the dusky background of the building, singing carols which have for centuries voiced humanity's exultation in the mystery of the Nativity. After Christmas the days sped fast, until, examinations over, we entered that half-longed-for, half-dreaded experience, Retreat. But the three days did not lag. The aid of a sympathetic director made the time so helpful that we were sorry when the days were over. The hurry of final work was lightened by Alay-time devotion to Alary. The opening note of the season was sounded by the zoology classes at their coronation ceremony. To soft organ music, white-veiled students moved slowly down the aisle of Stella Alaris Chapel, each pausing before the shrine to whisper a prayer and lay a flower before our Lady's statue. At the conclusion of the Alay hymns and Act of Consecration, a fragrant crown of lilies of the valley was placed at our Lady's feet. This exquisitely beautiful ceremony made May truly our Lady's month at Mundelein, preparing the way for the college Coronation later in the month. During this month, too, we pay honor to our earthly mothers. This year the traditional event in their honor included a dramatic pageant, especially adapted by a committee of senior writers, concluding with the personal tribute of a rose given by each student to her own mother or to the guardian who takes her place.
