California and Delaware, Ohio are the destinations of Mundelein delegates who plan to attend the annual NFCCS and NSA Congresses this summer. Heading for San Francisco is Mary Phyllis Fulgaro, new senior delegate, who will represent Mun delein College at the NFCCS Con gress held at tbe Sheridan Hotel Sept. 1-6. The new junior delegate of the NFCCS for the coining year is Nancy Scanlon. The 11th NSA Congress will be held Aug. 20-29 at Ohio Wesleyan University. Vicki Bomba and Marv Ann Wilczynski will attend. '58 Grads Will Bow At Alumnae Teas Seniors of '58 will be guests for tea in the homes of 15 alumnae May 25. Introductions will be the order of the afternoon as seniors become acquainted with the mem bers of the Alumnae Association, and with their 50 hostesses, serv ing on the Alumnae board. Mary Grace Sherly '50 is chairman of the teas. Formal induction of the seniors of '58 as members of the Alumnae Association will occur June 2. Seniors Are Giving A Ball May 29, You're Invited The music of Del Rene's Orchestra in the summer air accompanied by the rustle of full-ski.-tc'. formals will signal tbe opening of the an nual Senior Ball at the Tarn O'Shanter Country Club, Touhy and Cald well, May 29, from 9 p.m. to 1 a.m. Preceding the summer fantasy will be a turkey dinner for tbe seniors at 7 p.m. The general chairman for the Ball is Kathleen Newman. The peach and gold colored bids are now available for 5 at the Wishing Well Booth in the Lounge. Co-chairmen of the Bid Commit tee are Theresa Zacker and Jean Purcell. Assisting them in the sale of bids are: Ann Toland, Yvonne Daniien, Patricia Delsing. Mary Deal. Marguerita Dyra. Winifred Bartholomew, Joan Parker. Bar bara Schuster, and Judith Skwiot. Mundelein Receives 14,369 in Gifts Gifts and grants, totaling 14,369.31 have been received by Mundelein this month from vari ous benefactors. A wide range of disbursements for school improve ments have been planned by Sister Mary Ann Ida. President of tbe college. Notification lias been received of two 1000 grants, one from United States Steel Corporation in connection with Associated Col leges of Illinois, and one from Illi nois Bell Telephone Co. Tbe full value of both grants will be applied to the faculty salary fund, Sister announced. On Honors Day, the SAC presented to the college the amount of 7709.37, composed of the Benefit profit of 7581.18 and the Skyscraper Ball proceeds of 128.19. By SAC vote taken last winter, 2500 of this amount was used in redecoration of the lounge, and the remaining 5000 was contributed to the Foundation Fund. At the May meeting of tbe Wom an's Auxiliary, Mrs. Conrad Kies. president, presented a check to Sister Mary Ann Tda for 3000, an addition to tbe 4200 contributed at Christmas. This most recent Aux iliary check will nnance a new stamping and mailing machine for the use of the various offices and clubs, as well as a piano for the college social rooms. The Father's Club check for 500 presented by Mr. Robert Day. pres ident, at the club's final meeting, will be applied to the new lights which have been ordered for tbe study hall in 405. Student study and recreation cen ter will also benefit from the 350 check presented by the Terrapins, the 100 check presented by the Junior Class, and an additional 838.13 in small gifts. Seniors Go Forth President Will Confer 162 Degrees At 27th Commencement June 4 Sister Mary Ann Ida. B.V.M., President of tbe College, will confer degrees on 162 graduates at the twenty-seventh annual commencement on June 4. at 4 p.m. in tbe college theatre. Rev. Jeremiah J. O'Callaghan, S.J., Executive Vice-President of Loyola university will give the address. The Invocation will be given by Father Edward M. Flannery of Resurrection Parish, Chicago. Nine girls will graduate Magna rum Laude and eight will graduate Cum Laude. Candidate for the Bachelor of Fine Arts degree Magna Cum Laude will be Jane Cordes, Art ma jor. Candidates for the Bachelor of Arts degree Magna Cum Laude will be June Chenelle, speech major; Jean Engel hardt, French major; Suzanne McBride, music major; Mary McNally, music major; Mar guerite Molitor, economics major; Ann Molloy, history m/ajor; and Sister Mary de Sales, S.S.C., English major. Rel- la Dwyer, Marguerite Dyra, Con- (Continued on Page 5, Col. 3) Academic Hoods Symbolize Degrees Mundelein seniors, wearing for tbe first time the academic hoods symbolic of the baccalaureate de gree, will hear an address by the Right Reverend Monsignor John Tracy Ellis at the formal Bacca laureate convocation, at 3 p.m. Sun day. June 1. Monsignor Ellis is professor of American Church His tory at tbe Catholic University of America. Preceding the baccalaureate procession, the academic hoods will be bestowed upon the sen iors by Sister Mary Ann Ida, college president, and Sister Mary Donald, dean of stu dents. Tbe procession to tbe college au ditorium will be led by the mem bers of the Senior Class followed by tbe faculty, administration, and tbe baccalaureate speaker. The Reverend Monsignor Ellis will administer the grad uate's Pledge of Loyalty and deliver the main address. Officers of solemn Benediction which will conclude the ceremony will be: celebrant. Father Joseph Goracy of the German department; deacon. Father John Downey of the philosophy department; and Father William T. Clarke of the depart ment of religion. The ceremony will conclude with the singing of the Star Spangled Banner. The Processional by Bach and the Recessional by Cobb will be played by tbe college orchestra. Mary Ann will become sopho more president, while Barbara will serve as sophomore SAC represen tative. Ann Zarlenga was also chosen as SAC representative. Assisting Mary as vice-president will be Virginia Bomba. Rosemary Linssens and Mary Ellen Andries who were elected to tbe offices of secretary and treasurer, respective- iy. Ann Williams, newly elected Ser- geant-at-arms, promises to have tbe cleanest locker room in the building next year. College Head Attends Harvard For Session In Problem Solving Sister Mary Ann Ida, B.V.M., has accepted an invitation to attend tbe Institute for College and Uni versity Administrators from June 17-25 at tbe Harvard Graduate School of Business in Boston, Mass. Mundelein is one of the three Catholic colleges selected to be among the 35 participants from 21 states. Designed especially for recently appointed college and university presidents, the program will center around written case problems taken from actual experiences of admini strators. Discussions will empha size the decision-making function of the president. Included in the eight-day program will be comparative discussions over major curriculum changes, budget ing, fund-raising, and public rela tions. Financed by a grant from the Carnegie Corporation of New York, the Institute is conducting the fourth annual session for presidents. Travel costs of the representatives will be absorbed by the Institute. Sight-seeing opportunities in the Boston and Cape Cod areas will also be available to the delegates.
