Page Three - The SKYSCRAPER - January 24, 1969 Sounding Board criticizes MSC Lookout says we're being had. Sounds as if the college might have succeeded in a dastardly plot against its students were it not for the fine efforts of the MSC. v However, I sincerely doubt that the college is collapsing. Although' the duties of an Academic Dean and Vice President cannot be ignored, the titles can be temporarily withheld. This appears to me to be the case. We have a faculty senate and an acting academic dean (Mrs. TePas). Who can you go to in this school for answers to any questions, including those con cerning CSCA? The MSC pub lication queries. You can go to Mrs. TePas (CSCA), Mrs. O'Dowd, your department chairman and Mrs. Lewis. I myself have had plenty of aca demic questions adequately answered by some of the above. Lookout also says no health facilities. Loyola's health clinic is open free to Mundelein students. I've used these facilities twice this year. Lookout seems to be say ing: We've payed for a vice- president, we've payed for a dean, so let's have them. Well, I've payed for an educa tion and that's exactly what Mundelein is offering. Britta Baker noisy library Monday night I decided to take advantage of the peace and calm of our Mundelein library and study my Russian history. This subject calls for the deepest concentration, and I felt I could not do it justice in our noisy dorm. However, I discovered that our dorm is like a tomb compared to our library. It was not students who vio lated the rules of silence but members of our faculty and administration. They seemed to be having a gay old time in the solarium while several students on the main floor were having the severest diffi culty studying. A few left dis- pairingly. I do not know what kind of meeting these ladies and gen tlemen were having (actually it sounded more like a party), but I'm sure that whatever it was it could have been held in a different building. Mundelein has several of these; it has only one library at present. As all of these faculty and administration members know, the library can be excellent for quiet study when used correctly. At least I thought' these ladies GIRLS, do you want a new look, in dresses, suits, and sportswear? At wholesale prices? CALL MISS LEE LEE SAMPLES DI8-68W WEBSTER HOTEL and gentlemen were aware of this fact. I always thought the faculty and adininistration were inter ested in learning. But again, it is apparent that these facul ty and administration mem bers are not interested in oth ers learning. Or maybe, they just didn't notice us poor stu dents. Virginia Mills keep the faith I feel in the state of shock. After having read the survey on religion, I wonder if there is anything sacred in the world. I came to Mundelein under the belief that my faith would grow and mature. In stead I find that here, the church is an abandoned insti tution. Call my attitude archa- eic if you will, but I wish that my theology course would teach me some religion, something I can use to argue my faith. I fear that I am going to lose my faith, and if so, you will share the blame. Name withheld by request criticizes skyscraper I was very disappointed with your article about the College Council meeting of Jan. 16, because your report er completely missed several of the most important points. I am dismayed to think that anyone who wasn't at the meeting win not learn, at least not through the sky scraper, what really hap pened. Sister Ann Ida, Gerry Kurtz and several of the attending students concluded that some of our present problems (for example, security guards not being hired by Jan. 5 and students being frustrated be cause they thought they couldn't reach the president while she was away) are due if mnr Skyscraper Ball Sheraton-Blackstone Hotel Feb. 7 9 p.m. to 12 a.m. Tickets: 6.00 per couple Music: Ralph Berger and Orchestra Sponsors: Social Arrangement Board to communication break downs. These breakdowns are due to much more than the sky scraper's becoming an opinion paper. Student apathy (which was brought up more than once) was blamed for part of the breakdown in the ex change ofinformationbe- tween students and adminis tration. Misunderstanding be tween members of the admin istration was also blamed. You did not mention a con structive criticism that was made that a letter from the president be issued when needed to explain certain facts known by the president which students would like to know, such as why the Learn ing Resource Center is so late in opening and approximately when we can expect it to be ready. Sister Ann Ida was very glad to answer this question when asked at the meeting, but people who did not come can't find the answer without a real run-around. But per haps, if the skyscraper would carry more news like this which we want to know, an other organ of communication would not be needed. Another point I consider vi tal was overlooked by your article. Sister Ann Ida's an swer to Jeanne Gilrein's ques tion, that we can, go for an swers to Dean Lewis and the three assistant academic deans, sparked a question: Does anyone have the power to make a decision for the president while she is away? The answer was that no one has the power now, but that the president would support the decisions made by the ad ministration in her absence. Finally, your article did not even mention the Lookout, published Jan. 14, which aroused the terrific student attendance at the College Council meeting. Most of us come to seek some answers to the Lookout's seven ques tions in a way that we hoped would influence the College Council. I think we did impress the Council with our earnestness, because the Council members responded with more respect to our principal points, some of which I have stated above, than did your newspaper. Susan Vena Contact lenses are made o( modern plas tics which have en tirely different charac teristics than the tissues and fluids of the eye. Conse quently your eye cannot handle this foreign object without help. So. in order to correct for Mother Nature's lack of foresight, you have to use lens solutions to make your contacts and your eyes compatible. There was a time when you needed two or more separate solutions to properly mod ify and care for your con tacts, making them ready for your eyes. But now there's Lensine from the makers of Murine. Lensine, for contact com fort and convenience. Lensine is the one solution for complete contact lens care. Just a drop or two of Lensine coats and lubricates your lens. This al lows the lens to float more freely in the natural fluids of your eye. Why? Because Lensine is an iso tonic solution, very much like your own tears. Lensine is com patible with the eye. Cleaning your contacts with Lensine retards the build-up of foreign deposits on the lenses. And soaking your contacts in Lensine between wearing periods assures you of proper lens hy giene. You get a free soaking-stor- age case with individual lens com partments on the bottom of even/ bottle of Lensine. It has been demonstrated that improper storage between wear- ings permits the growth of bac teria on the lenses. This is a sure cause of eye irritation and, in some cases, can endanger your vision. Bacteria cannot grow in Lensine because it's sterile, self- sanitizing, and antiseptic. Let caring for your contacts be as conven ient as wearing them. Get some Lensine ... Mother's little helper. LENSINE Mother Nature never planned on contact lenses
