m r M FEBRUARY 1 If each of us had seven secretaries and each secretary had seven more secretaries, our schedule still wouldn't be right on the first day of registration. 2 Retreat was a rose which lasted only a few days, but left behind it a lasting fragrance. -February is not without the proverbial fly, for here we are back at school again. -Clicking castanets, impetuous Spanish dances, moonlight serenades, vivacious, dark-eyed senoritas this is how Mundelein students interpreted the glamorous songs and music of the Ramos Mexican orchestra. 8 Now the would-be scientists have some idea of the tremendous capacity of an X-ray machine for piercing iron, steel, and ninety-eight-cent alarm clocks. They learned it in the movies. 12 Although Lincoln freed the slaves forever, he couldn't free us for even one day. 12 Agile electrons, elusive microbes, and diminutive atoms appear in an all-star cast in Beyond the Microscope. 15 The Reverend Thomas Nolan, S.J., of St. Xavier College, Cincinnati, interests his hearers with the old-new story of Lincoln. 18 Terrapin Club celebrates its first birthday by initiating pledges. One little candle blinks merrily until puff and it is no more; Cake has other things to do besides supporting candles. 23 Resolved: That Great Britain give immediate independence to India. This, at least, was the question before the house when Northwestern University and Mundelein College came on the stage. The resolution is not passed; Mundelein wins. 23 After Mrs. Day's excellent lecture on new and attractive fields open to Home Economics students, a few members of the audience decided to change their majors. 24 We wish T. A. Daly, poet and humorist, would visit us oftener. What a soothing effect his sunny, gentle humor and kindly understanding of human nature have on a too-troubled audience of weary collegians 24 So chic this season What a delectable blue Quite in mode was the spring fashion show. 25 The students viewing the heating system in the basement were not studying engineering. On the contrary, Mr. Zimmerman's lecture on the subject of heating inspired the physics classes to such heights that it was absolutely necessary for them to make a personal inspection of the differential plant in use at Mundelein College. 29 Eta Phi Alpha seriously debates the question, Resolved: That Helen of Troy should be granted immediate independence. The negative won, fortunately. It might have been hard to locate Helen to tell her of this new freedom. W 16 The Chemistry Club holds its second-semester elections. Results? Same as last time 17 Vincent Micari, protege of Frederick Stock, holds us spellbound at his mature and sympathetic interpretation of the works of the masters, so perfectly rendered that we are scarcely conscious of his superb technique. Page 112 29 Dr. Rooney and members of the social problems class attend the Big Sister all-day open forum at the Blackstone Hotel. 29 Rebels and aristocrats, long, swishing, richly-fabricated garments, and dainty tea cups for one short hour the audience feared the worst, but just as the three o'clock bell sounded, the cast happily drank their dishes of real China tea.
