Age-old Christmas carols will resound through modern steel and stone, and the ageless Light of the World will be sym bolized in a cross of flame, shining from the windows of a present-day skyscraper, as the College observes the traditional Candle-and-Carol ceremony this evening at dusk. Carrying out the Yuletide theme, be gun yesterday with the lighting of the school candle, today's festivities will be gin with a movie at 3 o'clock, followed by a holiday supper in the tearoom. When darkness falls, students will as semble by classes for the carol ceremony. The entire south side of the building will be darkened, and candles will be placed in designated windows giving the effect of a huge cross of light overlooking Sheridan Road. Place Holly Wreaths Starting from the eighth floor, seniors will lead the procession of students, carol ing favorite Christmas hymns as they wind down through the building to the first floor. The procession will then file out the east door, and, after placing holi day wreaths at the main entrance, stu dents will assemble again inside for the singing of Jingle Bells and the exchange of season's greetings. For the first time, on Thursday, a special day was devoted to the ceremony of the lighting of the departmental tapers and the large College candle. As the Glee club sang the Adeste from the stage of the auditorium, members of the Stu dent Activities Council, club presidents, and seniors, all wearing caps and gowns, filed down the aisles, bearing candles lighted from the sanctuary lamp of the College Chapel. Light College Candle When the procession had arrived at the stage, the College Verse Speaking choir, wearing classic robes and with heads cowled, gave the account of tlte birth of Christ according to the Gospel of St. Luke. At the conclusion of the recitation, Jean McKeever, S.A.C. president, lighted the large school candle, symbolic of the all- pervading spirit of the College, as repre sentatives of clubs and classes extin guished their tapers, signifying the ab sorption of individual interests in the universal interest of the school. The ceremony ended, students left the audi torium in silence.
