Sociologists Attend National Conventions National unity was the theme of the American Catholic Sociological con ference that Sister Mary Liguori, B.V.M., chairman of the Sociology de partment, attended during the holidays, Dec. 27-28,. at the Continental hotel. Faculty, Students Give Programs for Women's Clubs Senior Musician Plays For Iowa Centennial Students and Faculty members from various department- have presented pro grams for local and out-of-town groups during the past weeks, and Senior Mar ion King is scheduled to lecture on Youth's View ff Modern Literature, before members of the Wilmcttc Catholic Woman's club, on Feb. 14. Mary Louise 1 lector '45, staff mem ber in the English department, reviewed Francois Mauriac's Woman of the Phar isees, before members of the St. Jerome's Sanctuary society, on Jan. 15. Margaret Cashman, visiting in Iowa, provided musical entertainment for the Iowa State Centennial, celebrated in Des Moines, Dec. 28. Miss Cashmau's piano selections included Gnomereigen by Liszt, Arendts' Noah, and a medley of old-time tunes, recalling a century of the state's progress. At the Thirty-Fifth Anniversary ban quet of the Ladies of Isabella, in the Red Lacquer room of the Palmer House, Jan. 8, the College Trio presented a pro gram of chamber music. Colleen Named 'Pat' Meets Expert Named 'Mike' . Shurc . . . and so ye want to hear a really true story about Pat 'n' Mike, now tlo ye? Well, now, one day Pat was walk- in' on the sixth floor at Mundelein col lege, anil passin' the door to a big biolo gy laboratory, when almost like a mag net, it was she was drawn into the big room. And that's where she met Mike. And they've been inseparable ever since, workin' away on the elifferenccs in nuclear structure of some of the common algae. Now, there But the story isn't complete until you know how it breaks the usual Pat and Mike tradition. For Mike isn't Irish at all, but Ger man, and black and tall, not fair and bonny like bis friend, Patricia Corcoran. No one can tell how the biggest micro- sco gt;e at Mundelein came to be teamed with the most petite under five scienti fic scholar. All we can say is that, like the first Pat and Mike that ever were, it was between 'em a fine affinity at first sight. Petite Pat Corcoran, junior biology major, cooperates with the largest Mike in the laboratory to study nuclear structure. I Senior Pre'Medical Students Take Ability, Achievement Tests Senior chemistry and biology majors desiring to enter medical school in the fall took the Professional Aptitude test here on Jan. 11. This test, composed of two parts, Gen eral Ability and Achievement, is re quired by the Association of American Medical Colleges. Christmas Belles Ring Old Year Out At Skyscraper Ball In the tradition of colorful holiday dances, the Skyscraper Ball, held in the Grand Ballroom of the Stevens Ho tel on Dec. 30, was a pageant of long swirling skirts and the prescribed uni formity of tux and tails. Sweping into the Stevens lobby from icy Michigan Boulevard were Virginia Neff and Mary Griffin, accompanied by Jack Moses and Gerry Broucek. After evening wraps were checked, one could see Virginia's gay striped taf feta formal and Mary's white net gown sprinkled with gold sequins. Also in stark white with gardenias fastened in her dark hair was Mary Beth Zeiner, escorted by Bob Reynolds. Waiting near the broad marble stair- ease for Eileen Martin, who chose teal blue velvet fashioned in a portrait neckline, was James Murphy. Virginia Bower, dramatic in a black and white striped taffeta that was drawn in a bow , ver one shoulder, and Jack Galus, pre- ceeleel Mary Ryan, clad in a grecian drape-el kelly green dinner dress, and John Donovan up the marble facade. While Bill Fitzmaurice and Alex Krusteko presented the Skyscraper bids, petite Mary Devine, wearing pink net, admired the three orchids on the shoul der of blonde Julie Weglarz's yellow taffeta anil net dress. Her black satin dinner gown half hid den by the checking table, Marianne Peterson, president of the S.A.C, and her elate. Tim O'Conner, accepted the dance bids. Regina Bess, vice-president of the S.A.C, striking in a severe black velvet skirt topped by a pink metallic blouse, and her escort, Jack Lynch, as sisted in the bid-taking. Among the early comers were Bob Eehcls and Dolores Yohanna, who rustled across the dance floor in black crepe that had a square jewelry neck line. Her candy-striped skirt swirling out, Ramona Preczynski danced with Joseph Paprocki. Other conversationalists were Patricia Heath, in a bustled turquoise taffeta, who was escorted by George McKerr, and Dorothy Breit, in white-net topped with black velvet, and her date, Bob Heffernan. Catherine Fitzgibbon, promenading with Ollie Peifer, wore a high-necked black crepe highlighted with silver. Betty Binsfield,. her taffeta roman- striped skirt swishing, and Bill Sav age completed the foursome. Her pink marquisette skirt bille wing over wide hoops, demure Rosemary Templeman danced with Mark Roachc, while Ramona Marino, in black mar quisette caught with white daisies, waltzed with Wally Keys. Gowned in black taffeta, Mary Ann Mockler listened to Del Rene's tunes with First Lt. F. Leland Wahl of the A.A.F., one of the few nun in uniform at the ball. Fashionable and warm in her floor- length, princess-style black evening ccat, fastened with gold buttons and complete with red velvet lined hood, Eileen Dolan left for the Empire Room with AI Ward . . . after the Ball was over.
