B.V.M., chair man rf the Home Economics depart ment, will participate in a panel discus sion at the midwest regional meeting of the National Catholic Educational asso ciation, at the Stevens hotel. Parish, and Community, the panel will consider practical ways of fulfilling the directive of the Holy Father, Pope Pius XII, concerning the preparation of young people for intelli gent and responsible home-making. Sister Mary Pierre's topic is The Need of Our Times for Such Training, and includes consideration of practical means for integrating specialized train ing for home making with the regular liberal arts program. Cardinal Will Present Award to Outstanding Catholic College Alumna Mis Eminence, Samuel Cardinal Stritch, D.D., Chancellor of the College, will present the Magnificat Medal to its first winner, Mrs. Henry B. Mannix, of Brooklyn, New York, president of the National Council of Catholic Women, at a special convocation on Thursday. March 18. Designed i lt; gt; highlight the constructive achievement of the Catholic college alumna in the modern world, the Magnificat Medal, established this year by Mundelein College, is given annually to the Catholic college alumna who. utilizing her college training to the fullest, has intensified appreciation of Christian social living by the character of her own life and by her contribution to social, aesthetic, scientific, philanthropic; or religious leadership. A graduate of Manhattanville College of the Sacred Heart. Mrs. Mannix. who holds an honorary degree from Fordham university is the wife of a Brooklyn attorney and the mother of nine children. She was the first president and is now honorary president of the Brooklyn Diocesan Council of Catholic Women. She is a member of the Boards of Manhattanville college; the Immaculate Conception Day Nursery; and the St. Catherine's Hospital auxiliary, Brooklyn. Mrs. Name Chairmen For S.A.C. As a requirement for the degree, Father Curran took a four hour exami nation conducted in Latin before the Most Reverend Emmanuel Suarez, O.P., master general of the Dominican Order. will be guest star on Opportunity Time, broadcast through WGNB, FM station of WGN, at 8:30 p.m., on Wednesday, March 3. Giving the entire half-hour program herself, Miss Dankowski will sing five numbers. Mannix also serves on the Boards of the Brooklyn Institute of Arts and Sciences ; the Brooklyn Chap ter of the American Red Cross ; and on the Advisory Board of the Brooklyn Catholic Charities. Served With NCCS During the war, she served on the National Executive committee of the National Catholic Community service. In 1943. she was chairman of the Brook lyn Women's Division cf the United War Fund, and in 1944 and 1945 she was chairman of the Br lt; oklyn Women's Division of the United Hospital Fund. She has just returned from Switzer land, where she represented the United States on the Governing Board of the International League of Catholic Women. Mrs. Mannix is the choice of a Fac ulty committee which tabulated nomi- liali- ns made by cleans of Catholic col leges and by other educational leaders, who recommended outstanding women in the fields of home making, social work, civic leadership, literature, medi cine, and the arts. The presentation ceremony will occur at 2 p.m., on the day school closes f r the Easter vacation. Regular 2 o'clock classes will meet at 1 p.m. that day. Three and four o'clock classes will meet as usual. President Gives Citation Sister Mary Josephine, B.V.M.. Presi dent of the College, will read the Cita tion, and will present Mrs. Mannix to the Cardinal, who will confer the Med al and address the assembly. Seniors and members of the Faculty will form an academic procession as an escort for His Eminence and the Medal recipient. Following the Presentation ceremony. Mrs. Mannix will be honor guest at a reception in the second floor social rooms.
