Send Four Teams To College Playday By Agnes Rodell Snappy plays, excellent floorwork, tricky shots, and real teamwork were seen at Patten gym when Mundelein sent four teams to compete against North western, Rockford, and the University of Chicago, on March 6. The second annual playday was sponsored this year by Northwestern university. The Science team, Mundelein's best, won all of its four games while the Sodality won one, lost one, and tied one. A mixed team won one, lost two, and tied one; the Terrapins lost three. The Science team started the tourna ment playing Kappa Kappa Gamma of Northwestern. Marian Gilbert, Irma Rilling, captain, and Mildred Parker kept the ball swishing through the basket for a total score of 14 to Kappa's 13. Sodality Scores Led by Helen Cocns, captain, Frances Geary, and Marjorie McPartland, the Sodality team duplicated the Science team's performances and defeated North western Gates, 17-16. The Mixed team, captained by Leona Michiels, led by Margaret Finncgan, Anne Stcinkempcr, and Mary Helen Walker, tied the 10:45 game 4-4. The Sodality again followed suit and tied Northwestern's sophomores 10-10. Kappa Kappa Gamma proved too much for the Terrapins, led by Lucille Small, captain, Marion Prendergast, and Helen O'Neil, and Mundelein came in for the short end of a 10-2 score. The Uni versity of Chicago was easy sailing for the fleet Science team and they won 20-2. The mixed team showed its superiority over Rockford by winning 10-6. The University of Chicago played a one sided game with the Terrapins and scored 16 points to the Terrapins' goose egg. Science Undefeated The Science team, continuing its vic tory march, defeated Rockford 10-9 in a hard, fast game. The Mixed team lost to Northwestern freshmen 13-3. The So dality again followed the example of the preceding team and lost to the North western Juniors 20-8. The alumnae of the University of Chicago took a brilli ant game from the Terrapins, 12-5. Sophomores Win Basketball Crown In Class Tourney With their usual pep, spirit, and initi ative in overcoming obstacles, the sopho mores captured the basketball champion ship of the college by defeating the seniors in the final game of the tourna ment yesterday, 41-8. The seniors with a four-man team tried hard, but the sophomores, led by Marian Gilbert and Frances Geary, started a scoring campaign and the gallant little team was defeated, 41-8. Defeat Juniors 29 20 The sophomore class team, comprised mostly of the expert science team, and captained by Marian Gilbert, took an easy victory from the hard-fighting juniors 29-20 to start the tournament on Monday. In the following game, the freshmen played against the senior four-man team and won easily, 36-1. Despite the reach of the freshman for wards, the sophomores scored easily, led by Marian Gilbert, Irma Rilling, and Frances Geary, and the total was, 44-6. Maybe because it was St. Patrick's day or because they had a six man team the seniors defeated the juniors 25-14, with Mildred Parker scoring the entire number of points. Juniors Defeat Freshmen The final game, juniors vs. freshmen, ended in a 17 to 16 score in favor of the juniors. A rally, started in the third quarter, brought the juniors into the lead. Marjorie McPartland made 14 of the freshmen's 16 points while Rita Eiden was high scorer on the junior team, making 10 points. A trophy will be awarded to the sopho more team on Honors day and individual members will receive basketball awards. As they started, so they finished with the Science team carrying on in the absence of Mildred Parker and defeat ing Rockford, 14-4. Freshmen, Sophomore, and Junior S. A. C.
