Sister Mary Irma, Sister Mary St. Irene, B.V.M., chairman of the French department, Sister Mary Donald, B.V.M., chairman of the Classics de partment, and Sister Mary Corita, B.V.M., supervisor of the B.V.M. elementary schools in Chicago, attended a meeting of the association of the Cath olic Language Teachers of Chicago at Fenwick High School, Nov. 29. Sister Mary Liguori, B.V.M., chair man of the Sociology department, Sis ter Mary Catherine of Siena, B.V.M., of the Music department, and Raymond R. Toledo, M.B.S., cf the Economics department, attended a meeting of the American Society of International Re lations, at the University of Chicago, on Dec. 6. Mathematicians Hear Lectures By Experts Mundelein mathematicians were tocsts recently at two lectures on phas es of their science. Students in the department heard a lecture by Mr. Lyman Templin on Nov. Mspcnsorcd by Loyola's Mathematics riuh. He spoke on Celestial Navigation. The Women's Mathematics club of Chicago extended a special invitation mathematics student teachers to hear Joseph A. Nyberg of Hyde Park High jichool discuss Ten Minute Tests in Geometry. The Department had a spc- bulletin board display honoring lior Eileen McSweeney, who was chosen queen of the NFCCS dance on Nov. 28. Literature Students Compile Data on Princess Elizabeth The Princess Book compiled by Eng lish literature students presents histori cal and literary references to the life of Princess Elizabeth. Marilyn Kloss, Betty Jacobson. Lo retta Jawor. Betty Jane Shoemaker. Catherine Clancy, Mary Jawinski, and Marion Travaglini compiled the book using newspaper clippings contributed by the class. Study Hummel Collection* Sun Editor Talks On Public Relations James Supple, Religion editor of the Chicago Sun. talked on Catholic Pub lic Relations, at the student assembly on Dec. 11. A Loyola graduate, Mr. Supple is a lecturer and a contributor to national magazines, having written for a recent issue of America an article on the sub ject of his assembly address. Rehearse Henri Qheon Play Evelyn King, Georgette Gaumond, June Edda Kopal, Rosemarie Hussey, Margaret Anderson, and Erin Glynn suit the action to the words in a preview of the French play they will present tomorrow for members of Les D'Arciennes. JCSA Delegates Attend Program At Calvert Club Delegates to the Joint Committee for Student Action, Adele Baiocchi and Eileen Dolan. attended a Get-Acquain ted dinner, Dec. 13, at the Calvert club of the University of Chicago. JCSA delegates from all the Catholic colleges and Newman clubs in the Chicago area were present. Mundelein's representative on the cor respondence committee is Barbara Mc Gowan, junior, who will be assisted by Eileen Damuth. freshman, and Patricia N'ealin. junior. The committee will maintain contact with both Catholic and non-Catholic student organizations in order to familiarize all with the activities of the entire student com munity. Newsletter, the bi-weekly publication of JCSA, is available to all students. Subscriptions may be procured from Mundelein delegates. JCSA is appropriately called a com mittee for it is not a new and unrelated student organization; its primary func tion is to coordinate the activities of the two groups of Catholic students, the National Federation of Catholic College Students and the Newman Club Federa tion. Discuss Play Therapy At Psychology Meet A report on play therapy and dis cussion of a proposed national organiza tion of Catholic psychologists high lighted the winter meeting of the Chi cago Society of Catholic Psychologists, at Lewis Towers, on Dec. 13. Sister Mary Benedict, B. V. M., Sister Mary Aluigi, B.V.M., Sister Mary Cecile, B.V.M., of the Psycho logical department, and Sister Mary Francis Xavicr, B.V.M., of the Music department, attended the meeting. Adele Baiocchi, Senior Psychology major, re presented the students. Attend Mathematics Meeting Speakers representing the fields of psychology, psychiatry, education and social work considered phases of ethical problems in clinical psychology. Sister Mary Esther, B.V.M., chair man of the Mathematics department, and Sister Mary St. Ida, also of the department, attended a meeting of the American Mathematical society, at Washington university, St. Louis, dur ing the Thanksgiving weekend. Pur pose of the meeting was td present the results of mathematical research. Shirley Higgins and Patricia Duggan examine prints and figures in the German club's collection of art work by Berta Hummel. Add Hummel Original To German Club Collection n original Hummel sketch has heen added to Die Rothensteiner Gesellschaft's collection of 342 pictures and 30 figurines. This sketch, and a print of another original by Berta Hummel, the artist who later became Sister Mary Innocentia, O.S.F., was sent by her Franciscan convent in Siessen, Germany, in gratitude for 24 gift pack ages donated by the German club. Four copies of Hummel sketches, depicting scenes from a German folk song, had previously been sent by the Franciscan Sisters. The first two packages, containing food and clothing collected by the club, arrived in Germany on the anniversary of Sister Mary Innocen- tia's death in 1946. Clubs Sacrifice For Christmas Joy Giving in the true Christmas spirit is the keynote of club Christmas parties, as the European students share in the Christmas joy of the Mundelein stu dents. Sophomore chemistry majors, under the general chairmanship of Margaret Lennon, conducted the Christmas Pledge program of the Chemistry club, Dec. 10. Melba Pierotti, La Von Froclich, and Mary Nolan were chairmen of the Re freshment, Entertainment, and Ar rangement committees, respectively. Barbara Fallon, chairman, and Phyl- is Corrigan, Marilyn Shea, Patricia Dannehy, and Ruth Schweitzer, com mittee members, have planned the De bate club party, which will be held to morrow. Dr. Joel Gorges of Loyola will speak on Aesthetic Measure at the joint Christmas party of the Mundelein and Loyola Mathematics clubs, to be held here today. French students will present Le Noel Sur la Place by Henri Gheon tomorrow at their Christmas get-together, with Georgette Gaumond, Erin Glynn, Rose marie Hussey, June Edda Kopal, Eve lyn King, and Margaret Anderson par ticipating. Mary Culhane and Lois Has senauer will assist the players, and Pasqua D'Alessandro will take up the quete fcr European Student relief. Top secret of the month is the pro ject of Laetare Players, to be revealed at a special Christmas meeting on Dec. 17. It has to do with European stu dent relief and there will be refresh ments and entertainment besides. The Biology club members will have a holiday meeting today in the social room, and the Terrapins will sponsor a splash party at Lewis Towers during the holidays. Press club pledges, under the chair manship of Joan Merrick, entertained club members at a Christmas program on Dec. 10. Catholic Labor Leader Talks on Taft'Hartley Act Edwin R. Hackett, practicing attor ney, president of the Commercial Tele phone Workers union, and president of the Catholic Labor alliance, discus sed the Taft-Hartley Act before mem bers of the Economics club, on Dec. 11. Anita McCarty, club president, intro duced Mr. Hackett, who considered the Catholic viewpoint from the sides of labor, management, and union. He is the father of freshman Mary Lou. Advent Wreath Hangs in Lounge In keeping with the Church's em phasis on liturgical customs, the fresh man class has substituted a large Ad vent wreath for the traditional Christ mas tree in the bookstore lounge- The wreath, to which are attached four vigil lights symbolizing the weeks of Advent, hangs by red ribbons from the center ceiling fixture in the lounge. During the noon periods the freshmen gather in the lounge for Advent prayers and for the singing of Christmas carols. Round Table Retells Christmas Narrative In accord with the traditions of the English Round Table, the Christmas meeting, Dec. 10, celebrated the birth of Christ. Mary Patricia Gallagher, program chairman, introduced the speakers, Rita Szacik and Therese Mocny, who dis cussed the evolution of Catholic cus toms of Christmastide. Louise Coughlin related the narrative, The Real Christmas, and Mary Case read the Christmas gospel of St. John. Concluding the program, Miriam L. Rooney, Phd., of the Education depart ment, interpreted the poem, The Burn ing Bush, by Robert Southwell, S. J. 1'oinsettia tages were sold for the bene fit of N.F.CC.S-
