Freshmen Begin Work On Their Issue Of Paper Freshmen who wish to work on the Freshman issue of the Sky scraper due Dec. 10, report for as signments at one of the following meetings, in Room 305: today at 3 or at 4 p.m., tomorrow at 3 or at 4 p.m. Sodality Will Sponsor Holy Hour, Dec. 6 The Sodality will sponsor an all- college Holy Hour on Dec. 6 in preparation for the Feast of the Im maculate Conception. Dec. 8. Intention of the Holy Hour will be the Holy Father's intention: Peace Based on Justice. Father Michael Dempsey. A.M., of the Re ligion department, will conduct the Holy Hour, giving a sermon. Father Dempsey lias made an ex haustive study of the Holy Father's messages, and will relate the cur rent intention to the various peace proposals which Pope Pius XII has made since his election in 1939. Sodalists from all classes will lead one decade of the Rosary, and the Seniors. Juniors, Sophomores, and Freshmen in turn will lead the other decades. The assembly will sing the Salve Regina and the Magnificat. Jac queline Kosturik and Sue Haglund will play the organ Processional and Recessional. December 8 is a patronal feast of the Sisters of Charity, B.V.M., who conduct the College, and it is the patronal feast of the United States. Station WIND Presents Script By Sophomore An ordinary Radio and Television Script Writing class, Nov. 14, proved extraordinary for Soph- - omore Alice Raczak, an English- Journalism major. w Martin Maloney, Ph.D., instruc ts, announced that her original radio script concerning the East land Disaster of 1915 will be en acted on Northwestern Presents a Chapter from Illinois Heritage, on Station WIND Sunday, Dec, 9, at 9:30 p.m. Miss Raczak culled her informa tion for the script from 1915 and 1916 newspapers, and the Red Cross Bulletin about the disaster. The script is an account of the actual catastrophe which occurred on the Chicago River, and the re lief measures taken to recover the bodies of the dead and to aid the survivors. NFCCS Sponsors Related Arts Day To Familiarize Students With New Trends Have you noticed an abundance of pink and red in today's decorator colors? Do you know why the name of Siobhan McKenna is heard so often? Have you watched the gradual acceptance of jazz by the highest echelons of society? To acquaint Chicagoland students with modern trends in art, drama, and music, the Related Arts commission of the National Federation of Catholic College Students will have a Related Arts day here, on Sunday, Dec. 2. from 12:30 until 5:30 p.m. Keynote speaker will be Mr. Mel ville Steinfel, Chicago artist who has done frescos and murals in Chi cago and Detroit churches, includ ing Madonna Delia Strada Chapel on the Loyola university campus. Mr. Bernard Cullen. Chicago art ist, will present an Analysis of Modern Art. Paul A. Hummert, professor of English at Loyola uni versity, will talk on Two Basic Philosophies of Bernard Shaw, with readings by a drama quartet. The quartet will include Dolores Ferraro, Arlene Tufano, Michael Postillion, and Dr. Marshal Smul- son. Mr. John Starrs, of Loyola, will describe Jazz: an American Folk Art. presenting Hill Shanahan's or chestra. Maureen Sweeney is general chairman of Related Arts day. Barbara Sylvester and Lynne Sheeran are co-chairmen of Pub licity, and Joan Maher is chair man of Arrangements. Alvena Schell is designing the Program, Mary O'Malley is plan ning ticket sales, Dolores Ferraro will be stage manager, and Joan Callahan and Ruth Charlton are chairmen of the Refreshments committee. Holiday Shopping Here Is Easy Worried about Christmas shop ping? The gift sale conducted by the Chicago Chapter of the National Federation of Alumni of B.V.M. schools, Dec. 9 from 2 to 5 p.m. in the gymnasium, will fill your needs. The sale will benefit the Mount Car mel Infirmary. Co-chairmen of the day are Lor etta Maher, president of the Chicago Chapter, and Mrs. Peter J. Arns, second vice-president. There are afghans, luncheon sets, organdy and cotton aprons, cro cheted and woven baby sets in as sorted colors and patterns, dolls and stuffed animals. Religious articles include sick call cases for priests, rosaries, ceramic holy water fonts, and such hand- tooled leather goods as wallets, key cases, and rosary cases. Chest X Ray Unit Comes Dec. 3, 4 The Red Cross Mobile unit for chest X-rays will be at the north door Dec. 3 and 4. All students and stall members may have X-rays tak en without cost. Elated auts pay PROMOTING mission chairman. Class '60 Plans Advent Wreath Ceremonial Traditionally the Freshman class organizes the Advent Wreath cer emony, scheduled this year for Dec. 4, and the entire student body- participates in the lighting of the first candle. The fresh green of the wreath symbolizes the cycle of the liturgical year. One new candle lighted each week symbolizes the approach of the Nativity. Daily at noon, the Freshmen will kindle one, two, or three candles on the wreath, which will be in the tea room. They will light the fourth candle at their Christmas party on Candlelighting night. Planning the Advent wreath ceremony are Chairman Mary- Ann Peters, Council members Pa tricia McGuff and Kathleen Hot- ten, and 18 other student commit tee members. These include Bonnie Whe- lehan, Therese Michaels, Jac queline Gallagher, Yvonne Straub, Evelyn Parhad, Den- ise Heffernan, Mary Ann Ru- bey, and Brunelda Mangiardi. Others on the committee are Christine Nielsen, Marilyn Bur- chett. Mary Brown, Arlene Stasior, Patricia Farnum, Rosalie Jankow ski, Mary Madden, Narcissa Was- cinski, Patricia Jones, and Berna dette Rinder. Related Arts day, Dec. 2, are Alvena Schell, making poster, and Maureen Sweeney, Related Arts com- Library Presents Three Exhibits Tying its exhibits to current campus events, the Library is dis playing books on Jazz, Modern Art, and Playwright George Bernard Shaw, this week, in recognition of Related Arts day, Dec. 2. Last sveek's exhibit was on Thanksgiving, and the first of the series ran Nov. 12-19, highlighting books about Hungarian history and culture. Senior Art Student Displays Two Oils At Chicago Exhibit Two oil paintings by Senior Jean Johnson, president of the Art club, are on display in the Swedish Artists club of Chicago exhibit. The paintings are Backstage, which pictures a costumed dancer awaiting her entrance cue, and Dva Ludas, a portrait of two young girls. They are being shown until Dec. 17. The Art club will present a film, Creation of a Portrait, at a meet ing tomorrow in Room 711, at 4 p.m. Celebrated Violinist Plays At Assembly A violinist once congratulated by Paderewski himself will play at the all-college assembly at 1 :10 p.m. tomorrow. Stephen Hero has played with 40 symphonic groups, including the New York Philharmonic, the Min neapolis Symphony, the Philadel phia Orchestra, the Chicago Orches tra, the Baltimore Symphony, the National of New York at Carnagie Hall, the Mexico City Philharmonic, and the Warsaw Philharmonic. He has played for Father Flana gan's boys at l.oys Town, Nebraska, played in the White House, given 800 performances for the Armed Forces in the United States and in the Pacific Theatre of Operations .hiring World War II. Recent Visitor To Yugoslavia Tells Observations Tomorrow Father Richard Wojcik, who recently served as tem porary chaplain in the United States Embassy in Yugosla via, wll lecture before two campus groups this week and next. As guest of the National Student association. Father will give Personal Observations of Tito's Yugoslavia, to morrow, at 3 p.m., in Room 405. On Dec. 5, he will ad dress members of the Fathers club. Returning from Europe after three years of travel and study, Father Wojcik was on the Andrea Doria, Italian lin er which collided with the Stockholm and sank off Nan tucket Island. Director of music at St. Mary-of-the-Lake seminary. Father Wojcik is the brother of Senior Norma Wojcik.
