Classics Head Named To North Central Committee Sister Mary Donald. B.V.M., chair man of the Classics department, has been chosen to serve as one oi the six members of tin- committee directing the North Central Association's Committee on Liberal Arts Education. Invited to j in tin- North Central Study in 1941. Mundefcin was one of the 28 colleges in which the investiga tion was launched. Since then, the Col lege has taken part in annual Workshops for academic research, and lias partici pated in various North-Central-spon- sored academic projects. So successful was the work cf the study thai in 1W5, on petition of many additional liberal arts colleges, the ori ginal group was expanded to include 43 additional colleges. Dr. Herbert Sell mi tz, Chicago cancer specialist, will explain the intelligent attitued toward cancer. Dr. John Rogers, medical director of the Illinois division of the American Cancer society, will speak on undergraduate research. General chairman of the symposium is senior Marcia Maloney. Student guests from neighboring colleges will make reports. Lester Nathan and J- scph Fisher of Loyola university will discuss the mor phology and histology of cancer. A paper on Genetics and the Cancer Prob lem will be presented by Marie Worland of Rosary college. Mary Jo Lundberg and Mary Patri cia Zarher of Barat c liege will tell of cancer treatment and cure in early stages. Anne BannOn and Doris Poll from the College of St. Francis, Jolict, will report on Cancer-Conscious Edu cation. Almeda Allen and Gloria Volini of Mundelein will consider the Induction and Detection of Cancer in Hamsters as investigated by the Mundelein Biology club. Specimens, slides, and charts pre pared by participants will be on exhibit in the Biology laboratory the evening oi the symposium. This display will then tour the four other colleges par ticipating. Faculty and student guests from liarat, Ri sary, Loyola, and St. Francis, Jolict, will attend. Mundelein students are cordially invited. Give Scholarship Examinations Scholarship examinations will be held next month for students who are in the upper 10 per cent of high school classes and who merit the recommen dation of the high school principal. Drama, Music Majors Qive Qraduate Recitals In April Selected scenes from Victoria Regina. recent starring vehicle for Helen Hayes, will highlight senior Drama major Jeanne Schubert's craduatc recital, Ap ril 2. The dramatic biography by Laurence Houseman traces, in 30 one-act plays, the development of the vivacious young Queen through her career as a gracious wife to the climax of her jubilee, where she is depicted as a symbol of the Eng lish people l f her era. In her Broadway production. Miss Hayes limited her presentation to 10 of the plays. Miss Schubert has selected six of these plays to interpret at her evening recital. Miss Schubert will he assisted by Wilma Lehmann at the or- gan. Spring Play Will Be Our Town Our Town, Pulitzer prize play by Thornton Wilder, is the spring produc tion of the Drama department. It will he presented in the college theatre, at 8:15 p.m., April 16. 17, 18, with Loyola university students in the cast. Rita Marie Augustin, senior Music major, will give her piano recital Sun day. April 4, at 3:30 p.m., in the col lege auditorium, assisted by Mary Heinz. Miss Augustin's first selection will be Beethoven's Sonata in C Major, Opus 53. commonly called the Walden- stern. Miss Heinz will offer Bach's My Heart Ever Faithful. Porgi Amor fr- m the Marriage of Figaro by Mozart, and Schubert's dramatic Omnipotence. Miss Augustin will play three com positions of Chopin, including the Scherzo in B flat Minor. Nocturne in C Minor is next, followed by the Etude in G flat Minor, Opus 10, N'o. 5. known as the Black Key Etude. Elizabeth's Prayer from Tannhauser by Wagner opens Miss Heinz's second group. She will continue with the 1- vely Si mes vers avaient des ailes by Hahn, and Vaughn Williams Silent Noon. Miss Heinz will conclude with La Forge's stirring Song of the Open. Jo anne Kecnan will accompany. Miss Augustin will close her recital with Liszt's brilliant and spectacular Concerto No. 1 in E Flat Minor. Marga ret Gamer will play the orchestral parts at the sec ml piano.
