Under the direction of Adelbert Hu- guelet. the Glee club will open the program with their delightful arrange ments of Espana by Cbabrier. Vale of Tuoni by Sibilius. anil Fairy Flutes by Tschaikowsky. Anastasia McGowan will accompany them at the piano. Following the Glee club presentation will be a number of piano and vocal selections. Hungarian Fantasy hy Liszt will be played by Carmelita Larocco and Chopin's Tarantelle by Patricia Vitello. Grave Dvorak will be heard playing Naila Waltz by Delibes-Dohnanyi, and Jean P.eckinan playing Rhapsody in F Sharp Minor, also by Dolmanyi. An gelina Traficanti will present Allegro Scherzando by Rachmaninoff, with or chestral parts at tin second piano by Anastasia McGowan. The two vocalists of the afternoon will sing operatic numbers from Verdi's opera Aida and from Puccini's opera La Bolieme. Grace Komornicki will sing Riterna Vinciter and Si chiamane. Mimi will he sung by Joyce Stcilein. Debaters Place In Tournament Four freshmen, members of the Col lege Debate club, finished second in the finals of the Inter-City Debate League tournament, at Northwestern university. April 10. Northwestern placed first. Affirmative debaters on the willllJlg team were Ruth Schweitzer and Carol Higgins. and negative speakers were Loretta Heenan and Cora Patterson. Other competing schools included the University of Chicago. De Paul, Loyola. and North Park. Nominations for the office of vice- president of the Student Activities Council of 1948-49 will be made at as sembly al 1 tomorrow. Nanus of all nominees, who must be members of the Junior class, must be filed in the Dean's office hy 5 p.m. tonight. The polls will open at 8:30a.m. Thurs day, and will he open until A :M) p.m.. with members of the Student Election committee in charge. Should there be more than two nominees, the Thurs day elections will serve as primaries, and the two leading candidates will run again in final elections on Friday. Members of the Election committee are Mary Margaret Doyle, Jeanne Smith, Ellcnmae Quan, Virginia Perry, and Patricia Meany. all senior mem bers of the S.A.C. Alter dancing gaily through graduation, rushing fevrishly through a summer of activity preparing for college, and groping blindly through a lahryrinth of first-year endeavor, our freshman emerges from her trial by Inc. a well-balanced, more poised, personality with new, perhaps startling, convictions, all her own. hen she fiisl arrived at Mundelein, she had the world in a hammer- lock, knew i. was .waiting bieathlessly for her major decisions on life. and wou d simpl) use college for a pause that refreshes, in her mad date-filled existence her glamorous sorority teas her innumerable fraternity parties a class or two even an assignment now and then. Anil then she woke up Mundelein took on new. more important, meanings. Students be came interested in national and international affairs in problems of self- government -in development of a sense of responsibility in the widen ing and crystallization of talents in cultivation of the ability to live with people, even if it were only a locker partner, and a desire to serve her too, in Kappa Phi lt; hnega. She found at Mundelein people who think, who realize the impor tance of Christ in every classroom, study hall, and lounge. She found minds at work, cultivating their resources, reaching new spiritual heights, and expanding ever-widening horizons. She found fun, too, but with it an emotional stability that kept her well balanced an inte grated personality. (in,- freshman is only a beginner now, because she's just get ting started. She doesn't know everything but, through letter organizations, she's developed a more adult viewpoint. And through prayer, study, and contact with Facility and students, she's finding a mature philosophy of life. Trinity High Wins Mathematics Award Trinity High school won first place in the High School Mathematics tour nament held here April 17, and the Immaculata High School placed sec ond. Both schools received awards. Individual winners included, in order, Mary Chestnut, of Trinity; Dolores Kahover, of St. Mary's High school; Mary Keown, of Trinity; Joan Simon of Nazareth Academy; Harriet Huddy of The Immaculata, and Jeanne Ander son of Mercy High school. Academy Greets Scientists At Annual Meeting Students of Chemistry, Biology, and Mathematics will participate in the an nual meeting of tin Illinois State Aca demy of Science, at Benton, May 7 and 8. During the meeting of tin- Chemistry division, of which Sister M. Martinette, B.V.M., on have of absence for study, is chairman, Rosalie Leutgoeb, Ph. D., will present a paper on the Oxidation of Alpha Methyl GlllCoside, Gloria Volini and Jean Halm will lake part in a symposium on I'NKSCO. As a part of the Physical and Social Science section of the collegiate divi sion, Mary Margaret Doyle will illus trate the application of Beer's Law to colloidal solutions of Prussian Blue. Biology majors Marie Egan, Almeda Allen, Sylvia Rudman, Aphrodite Di acos, and Marcia Maloney will pre sent papers in the Biological Science meeting of the collegiate division.
