i / *v* ,Y gt;ig / Marvin o-nan SEPTEMBER 15 Placement tests release a few freshmen from the ennui of rhetoric and expose them to the rigors of English Literature. 16 Happily ignorant and woefully eager, the freshmen juggle hours and classes in reckless abandon on the first day of freshman registration. 18 Now proficient in the art of registering, upperclassmen skillfully perform the feat in record time, and devote the rest of the day to happy reunions with old friends. 19 James O'Donnell Bennett, famous journalist, makes a thorough inspection of Mundelein in search of material for his delightful article in the Sunday Tribune. 21 With the advantage of the best of faculties and an addition of a senior class, we begin our second year better acquainted and really glad to get back. 22 The do's and don't's of college life are charmingly but firmly impressed upon the freshmen at their first assembly. 29 The Laetare Players open their second year with a pledge tea, the would-be members performing with ability that merits future attention. OCTOBER 2 In accordance with college custom, the Mass of the Holy Ghost is celebrated today in the auditorium. The Reverend Robert M. Kelley, S.J., president of Loyola University, delivers an inspiring sermon which sends us on to new heights of endeavor. -While the experienced Mundelein equestriennes enjoy a rich treat along the lake-bordered bridle path, less skillful but equally enthusiastic classmates are initiated into the mysteries of the sport in the arena of the Parkway Riding Academy. Page 104 6 Clarity and beauty of tone and variety of selections mark the second concert of the Welsh Singers at our college. It is good to hear them again and we hope that they will return next year. 8 The music students appear for the first time in a delightful informal program in the rehearsal room. 9 Those giants of industry among us who bear the weight of the business world on their shoulders, forget over-production and the business cycle long enough to frolic at the Commerce Club Party. 15 The Laetare Players are hostesses to Donald Brian and Edith Talliaferro, who are co-stars of Private Lives, the current comedy by Noel Coward. Both prove to be charming guests and the Players take delight in presenting them with the insignia of club membership. 15 Freshmen aspirants to the Stylus Club are pledged at a charming tea in the formal social rooms. 22 General hilarity marks the first social gathering of the freshmen, which is a frolic in every sense of the word. 25 Dignity, reserve, and womanliness are characteristic of the seniors on the day they first appear in academic gown Senior Sunday. Today we enshrine the Sacred Heart of Jesus, for it is the feast of Christ, the King. 26 Tuniced Greeks and togaed Romans herald the installation of the Eta Phi Alpha officers. 26 Those who seek journalistic fame undergo heavy trials at the Press Club pledge party. They weather all of the storms and announce that they are ready to interview the world. 27 Splash Sixteen little maidens dive into the pool and seven come out Terrapins. 27 The School for Scandal opens its doors, and out steps the charming Ethel Barrymore to greet two Mundelein Laetare Players and delight them with a friendly half-hour. The Stylus Club, too, attend and enjoy the School. 29 Even temperamental artists may be separated from their canvasses long enough to hold a delightful party for their pledges. 30 Spooks, horrors, tortures, decorations, and, most of all, fun, characterize the Hallowe'en party.
