CATHOLIC ACTION The Catholic Action Committees, which comprise the Mundelein College Sodality, and are affiliated with the Catholic Students' Conference on Religious Activities in Chicago, keep before the students the ideals needed by the modern woman, instilling into their hearts the love of Alary and her Divine Son. There is not space for more than mention of the various committees the Eucharistic, Liturgical, Our Lady's, Apostolic, Catechetical, with its catechists teaching their heterogeneous classes in the most neglected regions of the city. The Publicity Committee keeps the Sodality bulletin board attractive and worthwhile, acquainting the students with Sodality activities, and publishing these activities outside the college when necessary. The work of the Catholic Social Action Committee lies in caring for the poor and sick by offering them whatever help it can in the way of food and clothing. The Catholic Literature Committee aims to interest the students in good literature, and to recommend and place within reach the best books and magazines. The Girl Scouts, affiliated with the national organization, achieve through their eminently wholesome methods the physical and moral strengthening of their summer troops. The Braille Committee, active enough to be almost a separate organization, works quietly and generously to provide reading matter for the blind. Through these various channels the Sodality supplies the spiritual, intellectual, and recreational needs of its energetic members, and contributes to the spirit of enlightened activity that has come to be known as Catholic Action. THE STUDENT ACTIVITIES COUNCIL Among the fundamental principles of government at Mundelein College is the belief that the students, although not equipped to take the affairs of the school entirely into their own hands, should nevertheless have a voice in matters concerning themselves. To provide a mouthpiece for the students, the Student Activities Council was organized. Through it, suggestions from various quarters are considered, recast, if need be, and submitted to the faculty. The committee helps to supervise all student activities, and strives to promote the traditions and customs that mean so much to us during our college career and will make Mundelein seem so truly our own in years to come. The achievements of the council have been a source of just pride during 1931- 32. The year's activities culminated late in April in a card party, the proceeds of which constituted the first step toward the establishment of the college endowment fund. The election held in April resulted in the selection of a corps of officers whose enthusiastic and loyal service to the college in the past promises to develop to the full the possibilities latent in this most vital organization. The newly-elected general officers of the Student Activities Council are: Doris Barnett, president; Mary Toohey, vice-president; Katherine Brennan, secretary; and Mary Dick, treasurer. The students chosen to represent their respective classes are: Gretchen Kretschmer and Alargarette Nolan, seniors; Alary Jane Sullivan and Lenore Manning, juniors; and Jean O'Connor and Ruth Tangney, sophomores. 63 M 3SS Jl ii , 35 m ;sss k m M lt; gt;m 71 m m.
