The college organization is a Senior Girl Scout troop which was inaugurated in April, 1932. It is headed by a captain, or leader, who is a faculty member experienced in Girl Scout methods, and a lieutenant, Mary Jane Sullivan, who is also an experienced scout. Of the twenty members of the troop, two are eaglets members of the highest rank in the national organization. Meetings are held bi-weekly in the interest of furthering the national program for girls. One of the troop's most ambitious activities this year was the course in Girl Scout leadership which they sponsored. The classes met two hours daily for one week, under the guidance of Miss Madeleine Gammon, Girl Scout Director of East Chicago. Aliss Gammon was sent from National Girl Scout Headquarters, and proved to be a fascinating teacher of approved Girl Scout methods. Forty young women from Mundelein College and neighboring schools attended the meeting, and at the end of the course sixteen members were initiated as Girl Scouts at an impressive formal investiture service. The students of Mundelein College who have been working at this very worthwhile program are doing so in order to make of themselves Girl Scout leaders of the very near future, and they have won the respect and admiration of the college for the splendid spirit they have evidenced in all that they have done. THE LAETARE PLAYERS With the beginning of their second year, the Laetare Players introduced a novel formal tea in their favorite rendezvous, the Little Theatre, for the official reception of thirty-three new pledges. To these spirited young women, Mr. Charles Costello, director of the Loyola Community Theatre, and an old friend of earlier days, addressed a brief message of encouragement and advice, urging them to prepare themselves for the furthering of the cause of good in modern theatrical work. Such worthy counsel found an enthusiastic welcome among the ambitious and willing players, who, with their confidence deepened by the addition of new and promising dramatic talent, began work almost immediately on their annual program of one-act plays, Mundelein Alosaics . The evenings of November 22 and 24 and the matinee of November 25 offered convincing evidence of the ability and position of the Laetare Players. In this task of contributing to the interest of better productions, they were aided and commended by a number of outstanding Catholic stage stars, beginning with a visit from Mr. Donald Brian, president of the Catholic Actors' Guild, and his co-star, Miss Edith Talliaferro. Small theatre parties were organized to review current dramas, whose leading actors readily consented to address the club. From the Shakespearian stage came Mr. Pedro de Cordoba, and at about the same time Mr. Hugh O'Connell, one of the foremost comedians of today. The climax, however, in these highly successful contacts with the theatrical world, came when the Laetare Players were granted an interview with the charm- Page 85 V' , 2 mm WW I w 59? gt;m m* w *
